Years after its initial tease in 2022, Konami finally confirmed all the big details for Silent Hill: Townfall in the latest State of Play event. As part of the new rush of Silent Hill games, Townfall comes courtesy of a partnership with Annapurna Interactive and indie developer Screen Burn. While Annapurna Interactive experienced major shake-ups and a mass resignation in 2024, Silent Hill: Townfall appears to be on track.
Like Silent Hill f, Townfall is taking the series to a new setting, making the leap to Scotland this time rather than rural Japan. There’s still a lot to be revealed about the game’s mysteries, but after the franchise’s long dry spell, it looks like it could be another interesting installment.
Silent Hill: Townfall Release Date, Platforms, & Editions
Silent Hill: Townfall is currently set to release on September 25, 2026, meeting the initially announced 2026 window with room to spare. Like most games coming out this fall, Townfall is releasing well before the November launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, avoiding the biggest competition of the year. The late September release also takes advantage of the Halloween season, following the approach taken by Silent Hill f last year.
Silent Hill: Townfall will come in two different version — a physical and digital standard edition and a digital deluxe edition. The digital deluxe version adds an alternate outfit for protagonist Simon Ordell, a digital artbook, and a digital soundtrack. When pre-ordered, it also comes with 48-hour early access.
Pre-orders of either the standard or deluxe edition also include a rusted CRTV style. PlayStation owners additionally gain access to the extra benefit of a Beach Edition CRTV style.
Along with the PS5 release, Silent Hill: Townfall will also be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Unlike Silent Hill f, Townfall won’t be coming to Xbox Series X/S at launch.
Silent Hill: Townfall Trailer
The latest Silent Hill: Townfall trailer, courtesy of the June 2026 State of Play showcase, focuses once more on Simon Ordell and the general atmosphere of St. Amelia rather than emphasizing action gameplay. In the trailer, Simon comes face to face with Zoe, a nurse on St. Amelia whose character remains something of a mystery. The trailer ends with the message to “fear the truth behind the static.”
This builds on another State of Play trailer from earlier this year, which was likewise relatively cinematic and cryptic in nature. Both trailers offer a glimpse at some first-person action gameplay near the end, but not enough to get a great handle on how the game plays.
Silent Hill: Townfall Gameplay Details
The biggest gameplay change in Silent Hill: Townfall is the leap to first-person, a format that has never before been adopted for a full Silent Hill experience. Silent Hill 4: The Room features some first-person segments, and Hideo Kojima’s infamous Playable Teaser that was temporarily available on PlayStation 4 effectively embraced the perspective. While Silent Hill: Townfall looks nothing like P.T. overall, the first-person approach could be a major selling point for fans.
Unlike Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall is bringing back firearms, and some of the gameplay footage shows Simon firing on enemies with a revolver. In true Silent Hill fashion, however, he’ll also be beating back enemies with makeshift weapons like planks and pipes. On PlayStation, combat will also make use of DualSense controller features, with adaptive triggers for firearms, haptic feedback for enemy foosteps, and motion controls to tune the CRTV to weak signals.
A PlayStation Blog post emphasizes the idea of “knowing when not to fight,” so avoiding confrontation might be key to survival. The latest trailer exhibits this prerogative, with Simon tossing an object to distract a creature before sneaking behind it. The blog post also mentions “story-driven puzzles,” sticking to the franchise tradition of throwing in some brain-teasers along with the action.
The Silent Hill Transmission stream, available on the official Silent Hill YouTube channel, also highlights a new focus on stealth. Simon can lean around and over objects to spy out enemy positions, and Simon’s handheld CRTV screen likewise provides useful information for stealth. The CRTV is an evolution of Silent Hill‘s typical radio system, showing nearby threats and potentially delivering hints.
Silent Hill: Townfall Story Details
Silent Hill: Townfall sees Simon Ordell return to the island of St. Amelia to “put things to rest,” but the nature of his history with the island isn’t yet clear. Near the start of the trailer, he climbs out of the water onto a dock before heading into town. There, a number of handmade signs hint at the town’s uncertain history, suggesting some cataclysmic event of the past. Writer and director Jon McKellan promises that mystery will be a key component of the game, with both “small details and big reveals” to be uncovered throughout.
The biggest revelation from the latest trailer is that the voice heard on Simon’s CRTV is Zoe, with the most recent PlayStation Blog post going into slightly more detail on her character. While this “nurse from a local family clinic” appears to know Simon, the recognition isn’t mutual.
Another emphasis is the idea of guilt, which is a common theme in Silent Hill games. Exactly how that will play out also remains to be seen, but Simon’s yet-unrevealed backstory will probably tie into it directly, likely forcing some form of personal reckoning as the story reaches its climax.
The Scottish setting is apparently a major part of Silent Hill: Townfall‘s DNA, and the Transmission showcase highlights a variety of towns in Scotland that inspired the game. The sea fog on the Scottish coast, called the “haar,” was the perfect fit for Silent Hill‘s atmosphere.
Like Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall also promises multiple endings. That being said, it may not follow Silent Hill f‘s tack of requiring New Game+ playthroughs to access some of them, as it’s unlikely to share the same degree of visual novel inspirations.
More details about Silent Hill: Townfall will probably have to wait until later in the year, but at the moment, it’s looking like a perfect fit for the series. Silent Hill f proved the efficacy of taking the series outside its traditional setting, and St. Valentine still has the necessary sense of foggy isolation. Hopefully, Screen Burn can deliver another hit for one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time.
