Silo Season 4’s Confirmed 2027 Release Fixes An Annoying Apple TV Streaming Trend

[

Even before Silo season 3 ends its run, the release date for season 4 has been announced. As confirmed, Silo season 4 premieres on Apple TV in Summer 2027. While its final release date is yet to be announced, a Summer 2027 release suggests it will come out nearly one year after season 3. The release schedule for Silo‘s seasons 3 and 4 allows the Apple TV sci-fi show to break an annoying streaming trend.

In the streaming era, gone are the days when shows, especially from the sci-fi genre, left one-year gaps between seasons. More often than not, even some of the most commercially and critically successful shows at least leave two years between new seasons. Apple TV has the best sci-fi catalog right now, but it is infamously known for following this trend.

Some of the best sci-fi shows on Apple TV, like Severance, keep viewers waiting for years before releasing new installments. Fortunately, Silo is finally changing this trend by keeping little waiting time between seasons 3 and 4. A closer look at its recent story developments also reveals why it would not have gotten away with a longer gap.

Silo Has Become A Rare Apple TV Sci-Fi Show With Only 1 Year Between Two Seasons

To put things into perspective, Severance season 1 premiered on Apple TV in February 2022. The show’s season 2 then came out almost three years later in January 2025. Since Severance season 2‘s production was slowed down by the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, it was understandable that it took a while to land on Apple TV.

However, it looks like Severance season 3‘s production timeline is no better. Its filming started in July 2026, almost 18 months after season 2’s premiere on Apple TV. Considering how its filming will take at least six months, and it will stay in post-production for eight more months, Severance season 3 cannot be expected to come out before the end of 2027.

It is possible that Severance season 3’s release might even get delayed to 2028. Pluribus, which is another one of Apple TV’s most valuable sci-fi IPs, is also seemingly falling victim to increasingly long production cycles.

Fortunately, Silo is not treading the same path. The show is ending its run with season 4, and, instead of making viewers wait for another two years before its final installment premieres, Apple TV+ has filmed seasons 3 and 4 back-to-back. This ensures that the sci-fi show’s story reaches its conclusion on a much more reasonable timeline.

Since Silo season 4 has already been filmed even before season 3 ends its run on Apple TV, the show can head straight into post-production soon and deliver the final installment in Summer 2027.

A Delayed Season 4 Release Would Have Harmed Silo

Silo season 3 is all about preparing viewers for the overarching story’s endgame. By walking through the central silos’ origin story, the show is gradually filling in the biggest gaps in its mythology while laying the narrative groundwork for season 4’s final revelations. Even before season 3 ends, viewers will likely get many revelations while being compelled to ask more questions surrounding season 4’s story.

If the show had broken momentum after season 3 by leaving a long gap before season 4’s release, it would have risked diminishing audience interest before its final chapter. Like Silo season 2, season 3 will also likely end with a major cliffhanger. If the show had waited too long to pay this off in season 4, the impact of its final resolution could have been significantly diluted.

Fortunately, Silo is not repeating the same mistake as most other Apple TV sci-fi shows. More shows from the streaming era should adopt a similar back-to-back filming approach if two of their new seasons have been confirmed. Perhaps even Severance should take the same route to ensure that viewers do not have to spend almost a decade to wait for its story to end.
