Less than two weeks into its theatrical run, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has broken into an elite all‑time worldwide box‑office list. In doing so, the movie has overtaken virtually every Marvel Cinematic Universe movie ever made. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fourth solo Spider-Man feature to be headlined by Tom Holland, who made his debut as the fan-favorite superhero with Captain America: Civil War a decade ago. Since then, he has headlined a trilogy of blockbuster solo Spider-Man movies directed by Jon Watts and has played important supporting roles in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. To call him the MVP of the MCU, especially as the franchise stands right now, wouldn’t be a stretch.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day broke Avengers: Endgame‘s opening-weekend record at the domestic box office, grossing a massive $360 million. Also featuringZendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, and Sadie Sink, it broke past the $500 million mark domestically and the $1 billion mark worldwide in its first week of release. It’s now the highest-grossing movie of 2026, and among only 65 films in history to have grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. In all probability, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will become only the third superhero movie ever to pass the $2 billion mark this weekend. The movie is coasting on the strength of warm audience reception and terrific reviews. It now holds a “Certified Fresh” 90% critics’ score and a “Verified Hot” 98% audience score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
