Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer #2 Breakdown: 10 Biggest Moments & Reveals

[

Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s second trailer has just been released, featuring new moments and reveals to get MCU fans even more excited about the upcoming movie.

In the aftermath of Spider-Man: No Way Home’s brutal ending, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has been operating on his own, with the entire world having forgotten who he is. Working to protect the streets of New York, the emergence of a new threat will see Spider-Man facing all-new dangers, all while struggling to deal with major changes of his own, receiving new powers and abilities he’s struggling to control.

While No Way Home was a major multiversal adventure featuring past versions of Spider-Man from other realities along with their villains, Brand New Day is set to be a more grounded and personal street-level story, while still having significant stakes of its own. Keeping that in mind, here are the ten of the biggest moments and reveals from Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s second trailer.

The Spider Overtaking The Man

Spider-Man Darkness Mutation in Brand New Day Trailer #2

While Brand New Day’s first trailer hinted that Peter Parker’s mutation was rapidly evolving, the newest footage makes it clear that Peter is struggling to maintain control in the face of dark new impulses.

Spider-Man himself admits in this new trailer that he’s “losing his mind,” and that lately he’s been “out of control.” This is more than proven in this new trailer with Spider-Man throwing Scorpion around like a rag-doll as his eyes go fully black. Without a doubt, this feels very similar to “The Other” storyline in the comics, where Peter Parker similarly emerged from a web cocoon reborn with heightened abilities and darker spider-like impulses.

Scorpion Returns

Scorpion Mac Gargan in Brand New Day Trailer #2

Nearly a decade after 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, Michael Mando is finally returning as Mac Gargan’s Scorpion. While this was confirmed in the first trailer, this new trailer features more of a major showdown between Gargan and Peter Parker, giving viewers their best look yet at his new green armor and deadly prehensile mechanical tail. While he may not succeed in his efforts to get payback on Spider-Man for putting him in jail during Homecoming, it’s going to be very satisfying to see him try to earn his revenge in the upcoming MCU movie.

Organic Webs Confirmed

Spider-Man organic webs in Brand New Day Trailer #2

While the first trailer heavily implied that the MCU’s Spider-Man would be receiving organic webs, this latest trailer confirms the change outright when Peter Parker’s mechanical web-shooters are literally forced off his wrists by the organic webs underneath. While Tom Holland’s Peter Parker had always used mechanical webs since his debut in Captain America: Civil War, it seems as though his rapidly mutating physiology has made them redundant (while also making him more like Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man).

“A Threat We Can’t Even See”

Sadie Sink in Brand New Day Trailer #2

The second trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day also helps confirm what was already highly speculated: that the hooded figure seemingly capable of controlling minds is none other than actress Sadie Sink.

Likewise, Tramell Tillman’s character is confirmed to be William “Bill” Metzger, who looks to be a leading member of the Department of Damage Control. In the comics, Metzger was an anti-mutant activist and leader of the Anti-Mutant Militia. Telling Spider-Man that New York’s latest threat is “one we can’t even see.” He also says that Spider-Man is the only one immune to her powers and is the only one who can sense her.

Keeping all that in mind, it stands to reason that Sadie Sink’s mysterious character is Jean Grey, as has been highly speculated and theorized ever since her initial casting. If that’s indeed true, perhaps she’s not the villain she’s being made out to be in the trailers.

First Appeared 2016 – Ned’s Notes

Ned Leeds Spider-Man Board in Brand New Day Trailer #2

During a party hosted by Ned Leeds and MJ, Peter sees Ned’s notes and “Spider-Man Board”, as he’s trying to figure out the Webslinger’s real identity. To that end, one of the notes confirms that Spider-Man first appeared in 2016, the same year in the MCU when Captain America: Civil War took place (the MCU Spider-Man’s debut).

An Explanation For Savage Hulk’s Return?

Spider-Man vs Savage Hulk in Brand New Day Trailer #2

The second trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day also gives us our first look at Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk. Several shots see Banner transforming into the more classic “Savage Hulk” rather than the merged “Smart Hulk” audiences have known since Avengers: Endgame.

Likewise, the trailer cuts between Hulk transforming and getting ready to pummel Spider-Man and Sadie Sink’s mysterious hooded figure, the implication being that she’s controlling the Hulk. While nothing has been officially confirmed just yet, it does seem likely that Hulk being mind-controlled could very well be the explanation for Savage Hulk’s return, returning to the classic rage monsters MCU fans have wanted to see for years.

An Official Team-Up With The Punisher

Frank Castle in Brand New Day Trailer #2

The first trailer revealed that Spider-Man and Frank Castle’s Punisher are familiar with each other and would eventually cross paths while chasing the same APC barreling through New York.

Now, Brand New Day’s second trailer confirms that Spider-Man and Punisher will have a more significant team-up in the new movie, with Spider-Man specifically asking for Frank’s help to protect MJ, having no other place to go. After all, it’s not as if Spider-Man has a ton of people he can rely on and trust anymore, so it seems The Punisher will have to do. At any rate, Spider-Man and Punisher joining forces is definitely something MCU fans have wanted to see for years, and is easily one of the most exciting elements about the new MCU movie.

Words of Wisdom From Aunt May

Aunt May Grave in Brand New Day Trailer #2

The new trailer’s most emotionally charged moment comes near the end with some key new dialogue from Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May:

“This whole thing can get really scary. But the people who love you love you because you’re you. Never forget that, no matter how powerful you become.”

Peter is then shown at Aunt May’s grave, clearly missing the woman who was his biggest support and major moral compass, having tragically died in No Way Home when she was killed by the Green Goblin.

Spider-Man vs The Hand Looks Incredible

Spider-Man vs The Hand in Brand New Day Trailer #2

One action sequence from Brand New Day’s second trailer is easily one of its biggest highlights. Featuring the same epic prison facility showdown seen in the first trailer when Spider-Man rips one of the Hand’s swords apart with his webs, the new trailer features a new moment where the Webslinger launches himself from the ceiling and into the group of ninjas, firing a massive amount of webs in every direction moments before hitting the ground.

Without a doubt, this new sequence is easily one of the coolest MCU Spider-Man moments of all time, making me even more excited to see what else Brand New Day has in store.

Spider-Man vs Hulk At The DODC?

Spider-Man vs Hulk Falling Building in Brand New Day Trailer #2

The final shot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s trailer sees Spider-Man jumping off the side of a tall gray building with the Hulk close behind, albeit webbed all over to various pieces of debris from the facility. Based on one of the recently released LEGO sets for Brand New Day named “Spider-Man vs. Hulk Epic Clash” set, it does seem likely that this building belongs to the DODC, seeing how the LEGO set carries references to the organization, and the playset itself has a feature where the building can be broken apart by the Hulk.

If the location is indeed Damage Control headquarters, it’s another solid piece of evidence suggesting that the DODC will indeed play a crucial role throughout the entire movie. Regardless, ending the trailer with Spider-Man in mid-air with an enraged Hulk close behind is a truly epic way to close things out and generate some massive hype.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases in theaters July 31st from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios.
