Web-Slinger Miles Morales is about to change Marvel lore forever, as the young Spider-Man creates a new generation of superhumans. Now, in a preview of that epic adventure, Marvel also showcases a redesign of a key Spidey foe who’ll be caught up in the narrative.
Spot Gets New Redesign to Battle Miles Morales’ Spider-Man
In a recently revealed preview of Reborn: Ultimate Impact #1 – from Chris Condon and Stefano Caselli – Marvel shows Miles Morales being ambushed by the Spot, aka Johnathon Ohnn. The villain – who can open teleportation portals using energy channeled from his body – is shown with a shadowy mark over his face in the shape of a ‘V.’
This is a marked change from previous appearances by the Spot. In prior comics, Spot is shown with either one large, circular spot over his face, or multiple spots in a Dalmatian-esque pattern. The ‘V’ looks similar to his Across the Spider-Verse design, but with even sharper edges and a more pronounced shape, looking far more like a mask.
A longtime D-list villain, Spot gained new prominence in 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, where he’s voiced by Jason Schwartzman, and has since become a repeat challenger to Miles in the comics. It’s cool to see Spot get a refined design, even if it doesn’t quite jib with his circle-based powers.
However, keen-eyed fans will have seen that Spot and Miles are fighting over a package wrapped in web fluid – and that’s what’s about to change the Marvel Universe…
Mile Morales Is About to Change the Marvel Universe Forever
In the recent Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion, Spider-Man traveled to Earth-6160, coming home with four ‘Origin Boxes’. These boxes are devices that can imbue their target with the powers of an iconic Marvel hero – in this case, the abilities of Juggernaut, Doctor Strange, Wonder Man and Captain Marvel.
Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #1 will see these powers fall into new hands, as four new characters make their official debut – Mogul, Hostilicus, Sightseer and the new Wonder Man.
The miniseries will also lead into the era-defining Avengers: Armageddon, with Marvel promising that this epic event will split Marvel history into two parts – before Armageddon, and after.
It seems clear that Marvel’s preview shows Spot and Miles fighting over at least one Origin Box, with whoever walks away with the device deciding who gains immense superpowers. With the new characters seemingly split between two heroes (Wonder Man, Sightseer) and two villains (Hostilicus, Mogul), it would make sense that Miles and Spot both take away two boxes each from this conflict, making this a particularly consequential fight.
15 Years Later, Miles Morales Remains Marvel’s Most Successful Modern Hero Debut
Most new heroes star in a few stories before fading into obscurity, but fifteen years after his debut, Miles Morales is still prominent enough to act as the catalyst for one of Marvel’s biggest events of all time. There’s little argument that Miles Morales’ Spider-Man has become one of Marvel’s biggest success stories, and hopefully he’ll imbue the post-Armageddon Marvel Universe with that same quality.
Reborn: Ultimate Impact #1 is coming 2026 from Marvel Comics.
