Star Wars Officially Reveals What Han Solo Did After ‘Return of the Jedi’

[

The years immediately following Return of the Jedi remain one of the most fascinating periods in the Star Wars timeline. While the Empire has fallen, the New Republic is only beginning to establish itself, leaving plenty of room for new stories about Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo before the events of the sequel trilogy.

Marvel‘s preview for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Echoes of the Empire #4 explores exactly that period. The new issue follows Han shortly after the Battle of Endor as he reunites with Luke, Leia, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2 for a return trip to Black Spire Outpost, revealing one of the smuggler’s earliest adventures after helping bring down the Empire. A preview of the new issue begins in the present day with Rey before flashing back to the New Republic era, when the Millennium Falcon arrives at Black Spire Outpost.

Jedi Master

🟡

Inquisitor

Grey Jedi

Disciplined, compassionate, and deeply attuned to the living Force, you have walked the path long enough to understand its demands — and accept them. You lead not through authority alone, but through example. You have felt the pull of the dark side and chosen otherwise, every time. That is not certainty. That is courage.

You are earnest, powerful, and brimming with potential — and you know it, which is both your greatest asset and your most dangerous flaw. You act before you think, trust your gut over your training, and sometimes confuse impatience for bravery. The Masters see something in you, though. The question isn’t whether you have what it takes — it’s whether you’ll be patient enough to find out.

You are not simply dangerous — you are certain, and that is worse. You have decided what the galaxy needs, and you have decided you are the one to deliver it. Your power is genuine and formidable, earned through sacrifice that would have broken lesser beings. But examine your victories carefully. Every Sith believed their cause was righteous. The dark side’s cruelest trick is that it agrees with you.

You were forged in fire and reshaped by those who found you at your lowest. You serve, because service gave you structure when you had none. Your allegiance is not to an ideology — it is to survival and to the master who gave you purpose. But there is something buried beneath the conditioning. The Jedi you hunt? You recognize them. Because you remember what it felt like before the choice was taken from you.

You have looked at the Jedi Code and the Sith Code and found both of them incomplete. You walk the line not out of indecision but out of conviction — you genuinely believe both extremes miss something essential. The Jedi don’t fully trust you. The Sith think you’re wasting your potential. They’re both partially right. But so are you.

Han Solo Returns to Black Spire Outpost After the Empire’s Defeat

In the issue, Han jokes that he can’t remember the last time he smelled the settlement’s “fresh air,” only to immediately recall a previous encounter with one of the local creatures that left less-than-fond memories. Han isn’t traveling alone. Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa have also returned to Black Spire, with the preview revealing they’re there to fulfill a promise made after the Empire’s defeat. Luke explains that bringing a mysterious object back home is more important than remaining to help, while Leia asks Chewbacca to keep an eye on Han while they’re away — a request the Wookiee is more than happy to accept.

That leaves Han and Chewbacca to settle back into the bustling outpost. As Chewie arranges supplies for the Millennium Falcon, Han quickly falls back into familiar habits, already thinking about stopping by Oga’s Cantina for a drink. Meanwhile, fan-favorite pirate Hondo Ohnaka enters the picture, contacting Chewbacca under the guise of helping resupply the Falcon and keep it safe because he is, after all, so trustworthy. The preview closes by teasing the inevitable collision between Han and the legendary pirate, setting the stage for the chaos promised in the issue’s title, “Bad Day at Black Spire.”

While the preview only offers the opening pages, it provides another welcome glimpse into a relatively unexplored era for Han Solo. Rather than jumping straight from Return of the Jedi to later stories, Echoes of the Empire continues filling in the everyday adventures that helped shape the galaxy during the earliest days of the New Republic, while finally bringing Han together with fan-favorite pirate Hondo Ohnaka.
