Indian stock markets will be closed for 14 days in 2025 due to festivals and other events. In April, trading is closed for three days for Mahavir Jayanti (April 10), Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14) and Good Friday (April 18).

The rest of the holidays are for Maharashtra Day (May 01), Independence Day (August 15), Ganesh Chaturthi (August 27), Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra (October 02), Diwali (October 21), Diwali Balipratipada, (October 22) Gurpurb (November 05), and Christmas (December 25).

    Indian stock market outlook

Indian benchmark indices declined on Friday, weighed down by IT and auto stocks amid concerns over U.S. reciprocal tariffs expected next week. At 10:30 a.m., the NSE Nifty 50 was down 0.17%, while the BSE Sensex slipped 0.20%.

Other Asian markets also fell, led by auto stocks, after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on automotive imports set to take effect next week.

“The market’s resilience, despite Trump’s reciprocal tariff threats, comes from the renewed buying by FIIs and the confidence this has given to the bulls. The bears are currently on the back foot and this market construct may continue unless Trump announces something very nasty,” said Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited.

“Apart from the tariffs the market will be looking forward to the April 9th monetary policy and after that the Q4 results. The US PCE inflation data expected today may give an indication of the inflation trend in the US. But more important than that would be the inflationary expectations from Trump tariffs,” Vijayakumar added.
