It’s finally here – hours after Netflix accidentally leaked it ahead of schedule, the final trailer for Stranger Things season 5 has landed online.
If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably watched it multiple times to pore over the footage within. We also imagine you’ve been trying to work out which song it’s set to and which band is responsible for said track’s creation.
Well, fear not, dear reader, for we come bearing gifts about the musical number used in the latest teaser for Stranger Things season 5. So, read on to find out who it is, the title of the track, and where you can listen to it over and over again.
What song is playing in Stranger Things 5’s latest trailer? And who sings it?
That’ll be ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’, which was written and played by legendary British rock group Queen.
The sixth track from Queen’s 1986 number one album ‘It’s a Kind of Magic’, the power ballad was also released that year – September 15, 1986, to be exact – and peaked at No. 24 on the official UK music charts following the single’s release.
In the years since, ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ has featured in numerous ‘best of’ Queen song lists, with Rolling Stone readers ranking it the fifth best Queen track of all-time in 2014, and Smooth Radio listeners voting it as the 15th best Queen ditty in 2018.
Where can I listen to ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ by Queen?
On all of the best music streaming services, of course. That includes Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and YouTube.
It’s unclear if the song’s use in Stranger Things 5‘s newest trailer will boost its popularity among fans of the immensely popular Netflix TV Original. Even if music services see a spike in the amount of people listening to ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’, though, I imagine it won’t be as successful as the song used in its forebear’s various teasers.
Indeed, when the trailers for one of the best Netflix shows‘ fourth season were released in 2022, they were set to Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)’. In the lead up to Stranger Things 4‘s launch, that track slowly gained momentum on various music platforms as fans of the supernatural sci-fi horror show streamed it time and again. Once last season made its bow in mid-2022, its popularity exploded and led ‘Running Up That Hill’ to become one of the most listened-to songs of the year.
If it wants to eclipse that musical number’s success, ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ will have to streamed over one billion times – a figure ‘Running Up That Hill’ hit just weeks after Stranger Things season 4 premiered – between now and December 31, 2025. A tall order indeed but, if anyone can do it, Queen, aka one of the most beloved UK acts of all-time, can.
