The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has rocketed past an impressive box office milestone.
Illumination’s animated sequel to their 2023 video game adaptation The Super Mario Bros. Movie debuted on April 1, following in the footsteps of the original by debuting midweek ahead of Easter weekend. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie cast features many returning voices, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Jack Black as Bowser, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, who are joined by franchise newcomers such as Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, Donald Glover as Yoshi, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., and Glen Powell as Fox McCloud.
Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is projected to earn a 3-day total between $69 and $70 million by the end of its sophomore weekend at the domestic box office, pushing its cumulative domestic total to something between $308 and $309 million. Not only is it set to become the first 2026 release to pass the $300 million domestic milestone, it will be the 116th movie in history to ever do so.
Over the weekend, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is zooming past the all-time domestic records of a number of huge blockbusters, including The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 ($293.1 million), Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back ($292.7 million), Man of Steel ($291 million), Gravity ($274.1 million), and the Harry Potter movies Chamber of Secrets ($262 million), Prisoner of Azkaban ($249.5 million), Goblet of Fire ($290 million), Order of the Phoenix ($292 million), and Deathly Hallows: Part 1 ($296 million).
