SUPER7EVEN, MN Media Launch Doc and Factual-Focused Studio SuperIndie

[

EXCLUSIVE:  Dutch companies SUPER7EVEN Productions and MN Media are joining forces to launch SuperIndie, an integrated studio focused on human-interest, nature and social impact driven documentaries and features with international appeal.

The venture brings together two of the Netherlands‘ most innovative and successful indie doc and factual players.

Amsterdam-based SUPER7EVEN Productions, headed by producer and director Jonathan de Jong, previously enjoyed success with his dementia-themed doc Human Forever. It drew 80,000 spectators at home, has been distributed in 31 countries and also won a prestigious Dutch Golden Calf public award in 2024.

Jeffrey de Graaff’s MN Media is known for The Wild North SeaPlanet Soil and The New Wilderness, which have collectively attracted a large theatrical audience of over 1,300,000 cinemagoers in the Netherlands and secured multiple accolades, including two Golden Calves and wider international festival recognition.

SuperIndie’s inaugural slate includes de Jong’s A Girl Like Rose, going behind the scenes of the life and career of Belgian super model Rose Bertram; There Is No Society, the sequel to Human Forever as well as titles Patterns of Life, WOW! and Ecolopolis

The new venture will oversee the creation of its own and third-party projects from the development stage through to marketing and worldwide sales.

The studio’s longer-term goal is to create a network of partnerships with like-minded independent companies across Europe and beyond, and SuperIndie has already found its first international partner in Belgian company High Mass.

The Bruges-based company was launched earlier this year by Benny Haesebrouck, who previously spent more than a decade at innovative Belgian festival, exhibition and distribution company  MOOOV and also held positions at Kinepolis Film Distribution.

“We believe audiences are increasingly looking for stories that connect them to the world we live in,” said de Jong.

“Documentary storytelling should not be confined to specialist audiences, and ambitious non-fiction can absolutely reach mainstream viewers when it’s developed and positioned with the same ambition, scale and creative discipline as scripted storytelling – this is the gap in the market that SuperIndie is going to fill.”

MN Media’s de Graaff emphasized their ambition to follow SuperIndie projects from the development stage through to international distribution as a key pole of the venture.

“Our approach is to think about the audience, our mode of outreach and long-term impact from the very beginning of the creative process,” he said.

“Rather than handing projects over once production is complete, we’re building audience and partner engagement from the earliest stages of development, alongside organisations, communities and stakeholders connected to each story.”
