Supriya Ganesh Exits in The Pitt Season 2 Finale: What’s Mohan’s Future?

Supriya Ganesh‘s Dr. Mohan said her goodbyes(ish) on the Season 2 finale of “The Pitt.” After spending most of her shift butting heads with Noah Wyle‘s Dr. Robby, the pair finally have a civilized discussion during the finale, as she admits, “Maybe I will go into geriatrics.”

He responded that it was a smart choice before sharing that he, too, had to reevaluate when his life didn’t turn out as planned. Ultimately, the two bury the hatchet, as she tells him, “Have a good trip. Please be safe. We need you here, even if you can be a dick sometimes. Good luck.” He replies, “You too.”

Variety broke the news earlier this month that Ganesh will not be returning as Dr. Mohan, and Ayesha Harris (who plays night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis) will be promoted to series regular. But creator R. Scott Gemmill is still figuring out any other changes that could be coming as they get into planning next season.

“We’re still trying to figure that out ourselves. But we’ll definitely see some new faces. That’s part of the fun of the show — seeing people cycle through,” he says.

So, does that mean we could see Mohan again in the future?

“I don’t know. I don’t think so, but you never know,” Gemmill says. “If there’s a good reason and a good story or if the show demands it, if the storylines demand it, for sure. We’re still in some of the early stages of figuring out Season 3.”

Dr. Al-Hashimi’s job security is also up in the air with her revelation that she had two seizures during the shift. But it’s likely Sepideh Moafi will be back in Season 3 as Gemmill notes, “We hope to explore some stuff with her.”

Gemmill and Wyle recently opened up to Variety about the news of Ganesh’s exit, which left viewers surprised.

“It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically,” Wyle said. “Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh, but obviously, Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning. Dr. Mohan is a beloved character, and I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors, and we’re going to miss her.”

Gemmill added that the turnaround is the “nature of the show” due to its structure. “Unfortunately, the way the medical profession works, you come in, you learn, you move on, and we want to try and be as truthful to that process as possible,” he told Variety. “So we’re going to turn over our cast. But I think it’s a great launching pad for people, and that’s the best we can do.”
