Apple TV gains new success for one of its most divisive movies of all time with Sydney Sweeney.
While the Euphoria star has seen an increased presence in film, the results have been very different for the actress in terms of box office and critical reception. Despite having hits like The Housemaid and Anyone but You, other projects in her filmography have not faced that success. However, one of Sweeney’s many movie roles is now getting seen by a new audience.
More than a year after debuting on Apple TV, Echo Valley has found new streaming success, as it has climbed to the #1 spot on the digital platform. Following the R-rated entry on Apple’s chart right now are Brad Pitt’s F1: The Movie at #2, Keanu Reeves’ Outcome at #3, as well as Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy’s The Gorge at #4.

Starring Sweeney as Claire Garrett while Julianne Moore plays her mother, Kate, the story centers on the established horse trainer’s struggling relationship with her daughter. However, the family drama becomes a gritty mystery when Claire literally shows up at her mom’s doorstep covered in blood.
The Echo Valley cast also stars Domhnall Gleeson as Jackie Lawson, Kyle MacLachlan as Richard Garrett, Edmund Donovan as Ryan, and Fiona Shaw as Leslie Oliver.
As of writing, Echo Valley has a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score is no better, as it is sitting at 50%, but that could always change now that it is surging on Apple TV. Given that it is likely a lot of new viewers who are catching it for the first time, that could change the audience score.
Even though it was an original streaming product for Apple TV, Echo Valley was given a limited theatrical release in the United States, as well as in Canada, on June 6, 2025. Michael Pearce directed the mystery thriller, based on a screenplay by Brad Ingelsby.
In ScreenRant’sEcho Valley review, Mary Kassel addressed how, despite strong performances by Moore and Sweeney, that wasn’t enough to save the 2025 film. Kassel stated how “it’s clear that even the actors aren’t quite sure what story they’re telling.”
Following Echo Valley’s ending, Kassel gave it a 4/10, stressing that “I expect a lot from a modern thriller, as the genre provides so many organic opportunities for stakes and tension, but it quickly became clear that Echo Valley was going to squander these.” In the end, “the movie might be asking what it means to love someone after they’ve wronged us, the fact that we never get a cathartic moment between Kate and Claire means this message doesn’t come into focus.”
