The Best Horror Villain of the 21st Century Is Officially Getting an Origin Story

It didn’t take long for Weapons to go from breakout horror hit to something much bigger. Zach Cregger’s film already felt like the kind of movie that was going to stick around for a while, partly because it made a ton of money, but mostly because it gave horror fans a villain they immediately latched onto. Aunt Gladys wasn’t just creepy. She was the kind of character who felt like she had an entire nightmare life outside the edges of the movie. Now Warner Bros. and New Line are officially leaning into that.

A Weapons prequel is moving forward under the working title Gladys, and Cregger is once again at the center of it. Deadline confirmed that Cregger and Zach Shields will write the screenplay for the upcoming film, with Cregger returning to produce alongside Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon.
