UDPATE: The Book of Mormon producers now expect performances at Broadway‘s Eugene O’Neill Theatre to resume on Thursday, May 21, assuming progress on the fire-damaged venue continues apace.

In a statement today, the producers, along with venue owner ATG Entertainment, said the venue’s recently closed box office will reopen to the public tomorrow, May 15, at 10 a.m./ET. “In celebration of the show’s 15th anniversary, the first 50 people at the box office on Friday can purchase $15 tickets, two tickets each, for select performances throughout the summer,” the announcement reads.

“The work inside the theatre is being completed by an extraordinary team that has made tremendous progress,” it continues. “Due to their efforts, the schedule for resumption of performances is as follows: Performances for The Book of Mormon are cancelled through Wednesday, May 20, to complete work on the theatre after the May 4 fire. On its current timeline, The Book of Mormon will resume performances on Thursday, May 21.”

ATG Entertainment and the show’s producers “will keep audiences updated should anything change in the coming days,” according to the statement. Both ATG and the show producers “are extremely grateful to the FDNY and the Department of Buildings for their help and cooperation throughout the repair efforts.”

PREVIOUS, May 6: Producers of Broadway’s The Book of Mormon and venue owner ATG Entertainment have canceled performances of the hit musical comedy through Sunday, May 17, due to the May 4 fire at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.

In a joint statement released Wednesday night, the producers and ATG said that the exact cause of the three-alarm fire remains unknown.

ATG Entertainment and The Book of Mormon are expected to provide an update next week regarding the show’s upcoming schedule. According to the statement, performances “are anticipated to resume at the Eugene O’Neill in the coming weeks.

“On the morning of Monday, May 4, a fire was reported at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre,” the statement reads. “FDNY was immediately contacted, were on site within minutes, and quickly extinguished the fire. ATG Entertainment and The Book of Mormon extend their deepest thanks to the firefighters and emergency responders for their bravery and speedy response.”

The fire, according to the statement, was limited to the “follow spot” booth of the O’Neill. A follow spot is a stage lighting instrument that projects a bright beam of light onto a performance space.
