The wait is nearly over. Prime Video’s darkly satirical superhero graphic novel adaptation, The Boys, is less than one week away from returning to screens for its fifth and final season, one that’s sure to be explosive, bloody, and massively hazardous for the vigilantes viewers have followed in their fight against The Seven. Through four seasons so far, the Eric Kripke-created show has been one of the streamer’s flagship programs, spawning multiple spin-offs, including Gen V, which is eyeing a potential third run, and the animated The Boys: Diabolical. Now that the battle against Homelander (Antony Starr) and his supes is coming to a close, it’s time to start looking towards the future and the next spin-off on the docket — Vought Rising.
Set in the 1950s, Vought Rising will continue the story of Homelander’s father, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), during his earlier years alongside fellow supe, Stormfront (Aya Cash). It’ll also explore the origins of the very organization that created the world of corrupt superheroes that exists in the present, all based around a sinister murder mystery. Filming wrapped just last month, indicating the wait wouldn’t be much longer to continue Soldier Boy’s journey following the Season 5 finale. Alas, in an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub ahead of the premiere, Kripke confirmed that viewers won’t be seeing the new show until “2027,” but chances are fans won’t have to wait too deep into next year.
“I have no idea when, but at some point next year,” he added. So far, he’s excited about what the first season will have to offer, even if it’s still a ways off from being complete. “I’ve seen cuts through Episode 7, I think, at this point, and they’re good! It’s really coming together. I think people are gonna dig it.” For further context, he clarified that “it might be a couple months into ‘27, but it was just purely a logistical issue,” and shared a timeline on all the work that’s left to be done both on the creative team’s end and on Amazon’s side. He told Collider:
“There was never any thought of releasing it this year. It’s not so much about the marketing plan as much as it’s gonna take us eight months to just even finish all the VFX. So, we’re not going to be done until November, December at the earliest anyway, and then Amazon needs time to localize it to all the different markets.”

‘Vought Rising’ Season 2 Is Already Being Considered Internally
The returning duo of Ackles and Cash will be joined by an extensive cast featuring Mason Dye, KiKi Layne, Nicolo Pasetti, Will Hochman, Elizabeth Posey, Jorden Myrie, Ricky Staffieri, and Brian J. Smith. There’s even a mini Supernatural reunion in store with Mark Pellegrino attached in a recurring role. With how much there is to explore and all the moving parts in Vought Rising, Ackles previously confirmed that one season just isn’t enough for the spin-off. It was designed with multiple seasons in mind from the start, letting the team dig deep into how Vought came to be and what Soldier Boy looked like when he was the top dog. Kripke elaborated, crediting the prequel’s co-creator and helmer, Paul Grelong, for pushing for more seasons and sharing his ideas for how to keep expanding.
“Paul Grelong, who runs it and has been one of my clutch writers on The Boys, he and I go all the way back to Revolution, and is an old friend. He has some really exciting notions about what Season 2 could be that are really innovative, which he’s been pitching. So, it’s more like he’s been kind of spinning and coming up with new stuff.”
Vought Rising arrives on Prime Video in 2027. In the meantime, viewers can tune into Season 5 of The Boys starting on April 8. Stay tuned here at Collider for further updates on the future of the universe following the flagship series’ end.
