There’s officially less than one week before the return of Prime Video’s raunchy superhero series, The Boys. The TV-MA show first premiered back in 2019, and it has since aired four successful seasons as it both expands its cast and becomes less satirical and more real by the year. Around the time The Boys Season 4 wrapped up two years ago, Prime Video renewed the show for Season 5 while also confirming that the fifth season would be its last. Fans still have dozens of questions about what’s going to happen in the final season of The Boys, particularly about who is going to be left standing when the dust settles after the series finale.
It’s become increasingly common for longer-running shows to wrap up with a finale that’s much longer than the average episode of the series. Most episodes of Stranger Things clocked in at around an hour, but the series finale clocked in at almost double this. Even Peaky Blinders, which traditionally had episodes right around an hour, wrapped up with a series finale that was almost 30 minutes longer than normal. Collider’s Steve Weintraub recently sat down with The Boys writer and creator Eric Kripke, and he asked if the series finale would be an “extra-long” episode like some of the shows to come before:
“It’s not. It’s like an hour and five. We’re not doing that huge, super-sized 90-minute thing. I don’t know if we would have had… I think the audience might have ended up getting bored had we gone that long. But no, we’re like an hour five, an hour six max, I think? But yeah, they’re all jack-packed, these episodes.”
