The DJI Neo for a record-low $159? That’s a no-brainer deal for the super fun and safe 4K drone

DJI’s smallest 4K drone drops to a record-low price for Prime Day – you can grab the DJI Neo for $159 at Amazon (was $199). For me, this deal is an easy recommendation – the tiny 135g drone slips into a pocket and can provide a quick bit of drone fun when the mood takes, shooting aerial 4K video / 12MP selfies, with clever subject tracking.

At a time when DJI gear can be hard to come by in the US, a record-low price for a versatile beginner DJI drone is welcome. From unboxing, the Neo is ready for take-off from your palm in seconds, while its propellor guards enable you to safely get up close. There’s plenty of strings to the Neo’s bow beyond its easy aerial selfie skills too – you can learn more, below.

Prime Day ends today, so I’d act fast on this Neo deal – there’s no guarantee it’ll be available after. Be sure to check out TechRadar’s live Amazon Prime Day coverage for the best DJI deals and more too.

Today’s best DJI Neo Prime Day deal

Our DJI Neo review says the beginner drone ‘is fun and incredibly easy to use’ and surprisingly versatile. Handily, it can be used for tracking shots with no controller whatsoever – that’s your simplest option. It can also be paired with a DJI controller, DJI’s app on your phone, or even FPV goggles for immersive flight – although those don’t come cheap.

It’s not the quickest or most stable drone in flight, nor is its battery life that great – on average we got around 12 minutes of flight time before the battery drained. However, most people will slide the tiny drone into a pocket and get it out for a quick bit of flight fun and aerial selfies with clever subject tracking when the mood strikes – for which the Neo shoots 4K video or slow motion 1080p video, plus 12MP photos.

We found the Neo reliably tracks for walking, running, and cycling aerial selfies, and is a great little tool to have when you’re out and about. With propellor guards and weighing just 135g, it’s safe to fly close to people and restriction-free in most regions.

Is the Neo your best first drone? That depends on what you need, and there are other beginner drone options in the Prime Day sales besides the Neo. In fact, if you want to grow your piloting skills, the Mini 4K could be a wiser alternative – check out our DJI Neo vs DJI Mini 4K article to learn more.
