‘The Lowdown’ Season 2 Casts Martha Plimpton, Clifton Collins Jr.

Both Martha Plimpton and Clifton Collins Jr. have joined “The Lowdown” Season 2, Variety has learned exclusively.

The pair are the latest new additions to the second season of the FX series, alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Betty Gilpin, and Austin Amelio. Ethan Hawke stars in the series, with the Season 1 cast also including Keith David, Kyle MacLachlan, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Michael “Killer Mike” Render, Kaniehtiio Horn, Tracy Letts, Peter Dinklage, and Graham Greene.

Exact charater details for Plimpton and Collins are being kept under wraps.

Plimpton credits include films like “The Goonies” (1985), “The Mosquito Coast” (1986) and “Parenthood” (1989), as well as the 2010-2014 Fox sitcom “Raising Hope.” More recently, she has appeared in the 2021 film “Mass” and the HBO show “The Regime” and “Task.” She is a three-time Emmy nominee for her roles in “Law & Order: SVU,” “Raising Hope,” and “The Good Wife,” winning the award for outstanding guest actress in a drama series in 2012.

She is repped by Innovative Artists and Markham, Froggatt and Irwin.

Collins received an Emmy nomination in 2006 for his work in another FX project, the miniseries “Thief.” He has also starred in shows like “Westworld,” “The Last Frontier,” and “Veronica Mars.” In film, he is known for roles in features including “Train Dreams,” “Eddington,” “Jockey,” “Capote,” and “Nightmare Alley” among many more.

He is repped by CAA, MGMT Entertainment, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman.

“The Lowdown” originally premiered its eight-episode first season to critical acclaim on Sept. 23, 2025. It was renewed for Season 2 in January 2026. Hawke stars in the series as Lee Raybon, a rare book dealer and self-proclaimed “truthstorian” in Tulsa, OK. Lee’s latest investigation involves the rich and powerful Washberg family, pulling him deep into a deadly conspiracy.

“Reservations Dogs” creator Sterlin Harjo created “The Lowdown” and serves as executive produer and showrunner. Garrett Basch, Ethan Hawke, and Ryan Hawke also executive produce. FX Productions is the studio.
