- A Motorola Razr 70 certification has revealed some potential specs
- A release for the flip foldable seems imminent
- Improved cameras and memory could have Z Flip scared
Ask any phone fan — including us — what the best flip phone is right now, and they’ll answer that it’s the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. However, another contender could soon beat it in a few ways.
It sounds like the Motorola Razr 70 specs have leaked out (this phone will likely just be called ‘Motorola Razr (2026) in the US, based on the brand’s naming conventions). This comes via Chinese certifications for the phone, which reveal a lot about it.
The upcoming flip phone seems to have a few specs in common with its predecessor, like the 6.9-inch main screen and 3.6-inch second one, a 4,500mAh battery, 32MP front camera and 50MP main camera.
However, a few specs are upgraded: there’s set to be a second camera that’s also 50MP, up from 13MP in the 2025 model, the max storage has increased to 1TB, and the RAM has also seen a bump with 16GB and 18GB models.
Four upgrades over the Galaxy Z Flip 7
A few of the reported Motorola Razr 70 specs could draw attention from the Z Flip 7, for fans looking for certain things.
Take, for example, the storage. If the 1TB model is widely available, business users who need loads of on-device space will have a fantastic new option; after all, the Z Flip and Razr 60 both top out at 512GB.
That’s just as true for RAM, which hits a 12GB limit in the Z Fold 7. Arguably, the 16GB or 18GB options in the Razr 70 are a little unnecessary in a flip phone, but they’d make it feel fantastically fast.
I’m most interested in the camera department. Two 50MP cameras would give the Moto more pixels at its disposal than the Samsung, but the listing also mentions 3x optical zoom, suggesting that one of the cameras will be a telephoto one. Since most flip phones currently offer dual-camera systems with a main and ultra-wide, this would be a novel and refreshing upgrade for the handsets.
The fourth advantage would be front camera resolution, with the 32MP snapper on the Razr 70 (and 60, for that matter) beating the 10MP of the Samsung.
A lot more goes into a phone than its hardware, so it’s impossible to say that the new Moto flipper will trump Samsung’s offerings right now. But it’s certainly one to watch.
There’s no word on when the Motorola Razr 70 series will release, but the 2025 models were shown off in late April of the year, so a roughly similar window could follow this year. It’ll possibly come alongside a more premium model, like last year’s Motorola Razr Ultra, but we haven’t heard much about that just yet.
