Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3, episode 2!Maggie’s dream is about to be put to the test.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3, episode 3 trailer reveals new survivors arriving in Manhattan that put Maggie’s hopes for the future in a tight spot. Dead City season 3 has switched gears on the story, focusing on Maggie’s decision to build a better life in Manhattan for her and Hershel. The hospital group she’s now co-leading with Renata has been a good start, but she wants to expand the number of survivors they have to ensure that, if danger ever arrives, they’re well-fortified to take care of any major threats.
Now, AMC has released a new trailer for Dead City season 3, episode 3, following up on a cliffhanger that sees a massive group of people begin sailing for New York City. The trailer shows Maggie and Renata taking the group in, but chaos ensues as it becomes apparent not everyone can be trusted. Negan and Dillard also grow closer, with the pair eventually kidnapping major members of two groups, playing some kind of “game” to see which gets to stay. It appears Maggie’s dream of a stable group of survivors is already falling to ruin.

Dead City season 2 ended with numerous threats being set up for season 3, including the New Babylon Federation’s army marching on Manhattan and the Dama building her own plans. But, within the first two episodes, both groups have been disposed of, leaving a hole for any number of threats to appear moving forward. While it’s unclear what the intentions are of the survivor group at the end of season 3, episode 2, it appears not one, but two groups are going to be central to the story moving forward. Just how deeply their arrival threatens Maggie’s plans remains uncertain.
However, it seems like Maggie and Negan will have plenty to discuss too as events unfold. The pair are on better terms than before, it seems the upcoming episode plans to drive a deeper rift between them. This was already established at the end of season 3, episode 2, when Negan killed the Dama, believing it better to have her dead than risk her threatening the sanctity of Maggie’s new community. While he killed her with the knife Maggie gave her, the placement made it suspicious, with Maggie seemingly deducing Negan was behind her death.
Season 3, episode 3 seems like it’ll be introducing new characters to Dead City that will be vital to the show’s continuation, especially with its running themes of redemption and building the future. It’s unclear how the conflict escalates to the point of Negan and Dillard hanging two captives by their wrists, but it seems likely the duo will be going to drastic measures for the sake of peace. Just how involved Maggie will be, however, remains to be seen.
With six episodes left in the season, The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 continues to take the series in a very different direction from seasons’ past. Just how expansive it’ll become remains uncertain, but Maggie’s vision of a brighter future might be on the line in a life-changing way.
