The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 Release Window Finally Confirmed As Series Tradition Continues

The release window for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 has finally been confirmed.

It’s finally been confirmed when Dead City season 3 is going to come out, the show’s release window continuing an important tradition for The Walking Dead spinoff series. Season 1 of the show was released in June 2023, about half a year after The Walking Dead series finale. Following an extensive break, the show returned for season 2 in May 2025. Season 3 began filming in Massachusetts in September 2025, and wrapped later that same year. However, there’s been no word on when the show is going to come back.

Now, according to Variety, The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 will arrive on AMC and AMC+ during summer 2026. Beforehand, though, the show will have its first two episodes premiere at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, opening the festival on June 12. The event will see Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan attending, alongside the series’ new showrunner, Seth Hoffman. While there’s been no word on what date the series comes back on AMC, its summer window continues the same release tradition as the previous two seasons.

Season 3 picks up right where Dead City season 2 ended, with Maggie and Negan coming to terms with one another and deciding to set aside their differences to build a new community in New York City. However, their attempts at peace in Manhattan are threatened by chaotic forces in the city, including the Dama and the New Babylon Federation. Caught between conflict, the two are forced to grapple with whether they can work together or not, especially as they try to resolve their past once more.

The Walking Dead spinoff has gone through a number of important changes that will differentiate it from previous seasons. For one, Hoffman is now the showrunner, best known for being a co-writer and executive producer on The Walking Dead from seasons 4 through 6. He’s also set to write episodes 1 and 7 of the eight-episode series, his first credits for the franchise since 2016. Season 3 is also adding new cast members to Dead City: Aimee Garcia as Renata, Jimmi Simpson as Dillard, and Raúl Castillo as Luis.

Dead City is one of two ongoing spinoffs in The Walking Dead franchise. The other is Daryl Dixon, which has seen Daryl and Carol traverse across France and Spain while attempting to get back home to the United States. Daryl Dixon season 4 will also be arriving in 2026, acting as the final batch of episodes for the spinoff. As of writing, it’s unclear when Maggie and Negan’s story will end, though Cohan has previously remained hopeful for up to five seasons of the Manhattan-based series.

Although the exact release date remains unknown, AMC is broadcasting Interview with the Vampire season 3 starting Sunday, June 7. This means it’s likely The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 won’t begin until the Immortal Universe show has aired, giving it a tentative late summer start date. With the series premiering at Monte-Carlo, a concrete date is likely to be revealed as the TV festival approaches.
