It will be a while until the new Pixar movie Hoppers hits Disney+ — my best guess is the end of 2026 — but it will certainly be worth the wait if you’re not heading out to theaters on March 6.
We follow Mabel (Piper Curda), a young girl who uses the new technology to uncover mysteries of the animal world. How? Scientists have discovered a way to transform human consciousness into robotic animals… so Mabel becomes a beaver.
“We have a couple of really fun ones”
“It’s funny because I didn’t know how easter eggs happen,” Chong tells me. “But they really just happened, even without me. The team just puts them in, and suddenly, they’re there. So we have a couple really fun ones.
“Obviously, there is a Toy Story 5 character in there. That character hasn’t been announced to the public, so I probably can’t really talk about who it is. It’s a new character, though.”
I’m speaking to Chong at the end of January 2026, so you’ll likely have a better idea of who he means if you now go looking for it. However, it’s also the most obvious choice — Pixar and Disney movies tend to pay their Easter eggs forward, nodding to whatever the next film in line to be released is (which, in this case, is the return of Woody and Buzz).
“We have a really cool Easter egg that we purposely knew going into it. It’s a homage to Ralph Eggleston, who passed away during the movie. He was a legendary production designer for Pixar, and he even did some good stuff for our movies. So look at the birds, and that’s in there.
“And the last thing I’ll say is there is a giant easter egg at the end of the movie that, in one shot, references at least six or seven Pixar movies.”
No spoilers here, but it’s a scene that you’ll know as soon as you see it. Frankly, it might be the best case for not skipping forward through a movie on a streaming service… and certainly for not checking out before the very, very end.
