This 2025 International Thriller With a Gut-Wrenching Twist Is Your Next Must-Watch

If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind movie that will make you feel so deeply, then this international feature is certainly for you. Having premiered on May 15, 2025, at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize, the film tells a profound story about a father looking for his missing daughter with his son in the deserts of southern Morocco. Besides being a Cannes winner, the masterpiece emerged as a surprise Oscar contender, making the shortlist in five categories and ultimately earning nominations for Best International Feature Film and Best Sound.

Directed by Óliver Laxe, who co-wrote with Santiago Fillol, Sirāt is the title everyone needs to watch. Following its Cannes premiere, it arrived in theaters in Spain and France that same year, and wouldn’t reach U.S. theaters until the following year. Still, for those who haven’t been able to check Sirāt out, Hulu has added the drama road film to its April 6, 2026, lineup, two days before the highly anticipated dystopian sequel The Testaments makes its three-episode series premiere.

The streaming update comes a year after Neon acquired Sirāt for distribution in North America and months following its New York and LA release on February 6, 2026. In addition to directing and writing, Laxe serves as producer on the film alongside Domingo Corral, Xavi Font, Pedro Almodóvar, Augustín Almodóvar, Esther Garcia, Oriol Maymo, Mani Mortazavi, and Andrea Queralt. Since Sirāt’s Cannes premiere, in addition to its Jury Prize and Oscar nods, it was nominated for two Golden Globes — Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Score — and nine European Film Awards, including Best European Film, Best Director, Actor, and Screenwriter. It also scored four London Critics’ Circle nominations.

In the gripping international feature with a 91% RT rating, we see a father (Sergi López) and his son arrive at a rave deep in the mountains of southern Morocco. They are searching for Mar — daughter and sister — who vanished months ago at one of these endless, sleepless parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a raw, unfamiliar sense of freedom, they hand out her photo again and again. Hope is fading, but they push through and follow a group of ravers heading to one last party in the desert. As they venture deeper into the burning wilderness, the journey forces them to confront their own limits.
