Many musicians suffer from a terrible affliction called GAS (gear acquisition syndrome), which makes us easy marks for guitar stores and online sellers: we’re on a never-ending quest to find the ultimate guitar.
And to be quite honest with you, Cream Guitars isn’t helping the afflicted: it’s just announced a really innovative, high-tech guitar that I can’t possibly justify and absolutely want (via Notebookcheck).
The DaVinci is a thrilling mix of old and new. The body resembles a Gibson Explorer or Firebird with its offset shape, bold lines and pointy corners, but that body is covered with a kind of color e-ink display that can completely transform the way it looks.
Cream Guitars DaVinci: key features and pricing
Let’s start with that display. It’s a low-energy, non-light emitting display that’s essentially a really big E Ink Prism 3 panel cut to fit the shape of the guitar, and you can customize its design over Bluetooth via the companion app. There are seven colors to choose from, and you can mix them up across 64 different segments, so for example you can try different pickguard colours to the rest of the body, or use multi-colored geometric patterns.
In addition to choosing the look of the guitar, you can also choose from three different voices: the Fishman Fluence pickups can be switched between single coil, traditional humbucker and high-output humbucker voices.
The rest of the guitar is more traditional with Ratio Graphtech locking tuners, jumbo frets, a roasted maple neck with block inlays and a rosewood fretboard.
I love this. The potential for annoying fellow band members is huge – never mind waiting for me to tune up; with this I’d be changing guitar colors from song to song – and it’s based on one of my very favorite guitar shapes.
What I don’t like, sadly, is the price: it’s $3,500, which isn’t astronomical in the world of guitars, but I’d have to sell quite a few of my guitars and at least one of my children to afford it. If you’re a more affluent axe-buyer there are just 85 units available to pre-order, with shipping expected in July 2026.
