Tim Allen wasn’t so sure he had a dad in him.
In fact, the Toy Story 5 actor admitted that fatherhood wasn’t a milestone he expected to reach before welcoming kids Katherine Allen, 36, with ex Laura Deibel, as well as Elizabeth Allen-Dick, 17, with wife Jane Hajduk.
“I never really wanted to be a dad,” Allen told Us Weekly in an interview published June 10. “I joke about it on stage; I’ve just never been a real fan of children.”
“It was a work in progress,” he continued. “My wife says we wish we’d had five kids because you learn on the first two. With Kate, I was gone a lot, so her mom did most of the raising.”
For the 72-year-old, life as a girl dad required a bit of a learning curve. When it came to connecting with his daughters, he looked towards what he felt most comfortable leaning into.
