Titus Welliver Officially Confirms If He’s in the New ‘Bosch’ Prequel

[

For a while, one of the biggest questions around Bosch: Start of Watch has been pretty simple: would Titus Welliver actually be part of it in some way? That was never an unreasonable thing for fans to wonder about. He’s still tied to the wider Bosch universe, and when a franchise goes backward in time, there’s always the possibility of flash-forwards, voiceover, or some kind of producer credit keeping the original star involved. But Welliver has now answered that pretty clearly.

Speaking with ScreenRant, Welliver said in full:

“I think they’ve very much got their hands full with Start of Watch, which I’m excited to see, and I’m excited for everyone involved. I haven’t met Cameron in person yet, but we’ve communicated via real mail. Believe it or not, he sent me an extraordinarily warm, kind and gracious letter. So we’ve been in communication, but I didn’t want to roll up on the set at the Start of Watch. I know that everyone is very, very excited and I’m not involved as a producer or anything like that. We’re not going to have any flash-forwards, or any older Harry. It’s very much a standalone show. But it’ll be really cool for fans of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy to be able to see Bosch at the start of his career in law enforcement. And again, you’ve got all the same people helming it. Tom Bernardo and I were the left and right hand of Bosch, and that guy is incredible. He’s an incredible writer, but he’s a phenomenal showrunner, because he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the books, and was very much a part of the evolution of the character and the world that he lived in. So, it’s in the best of hands. I’m as excited as everyone else’s and am rooting for everyone involved.”

Who Appears in ‘Bosch: Start of Watch’?

Welliver isn’t producing the prequel, won’t be appearing as an older Bosch, and confirms that the series is being treated as its own thing rather than a half-prequel, half-sequel hybrid. At the same time, his response is also a pretty strong endorsement of what MGM+ is building, especially since Welliver goes out of his way to praise Tom Bernardo and the creative team behind the new show.

The full main cast of Bosch: Start of Watch includes Cameron Monaghan as Harry Bosch, Omari Hardwick as Eli Bridges, Bosch’s training officer, Ariana Guerra as rookie officer Rosa, JD Pardo as Cory, William Fichtner, Azita Ghanizada, and Kathleen Wilhoite.
