Actor Titus Welliver’s most iconic role, Harry Bosch, will return to the TV screen soon, allowing fans to dive back into the character all over again. While many great detectives exist in on-page and onscreen fiction, one of the most beloved modern additions is Heironymus “Harry” Bosch, the hardened Los Angeles Police Department detective who later becomes a private investigator. This made it all the more devastating when Bosch and its spinoff, Bosch: Legacy, were canceled by Prime Video.
Luckily, that wasn’t the last we saw of Titus Welliver’s antihero. The ending of Bosch: Legacy set up the character’s return in the TV show Ballard, which focuses on a cold-case detective. Though he appears in only three of ten episodes, Harry Bosch helps Renee Ballard with her case and investigates the corrupt cops involved. His presence won’t end with season 1, though.
Titus Welliver will return to the screen as Harry Bosch in Ballard season 2, and he’s expected to have a significant recurring role in the next chapter of the show. While this was previously announced, it feels more exciting to think about now that it’s getting closer to the release. Prime Video hasn’t confirmed an official release date, but Ballard could be returning earlier than expected, if a Variety report is correct. Even if not, Ballard season 2 will most likely return by the end of the year based on Michael Connelly’s filming update, bringing Welliver’s Bosch to our screens in 2026.
How Harry Bosch Could Fit In Ballard Season 2’s Story
Prime Video double-cast the character Bosch in season 2 of Ballard, which might seem concerning, but the fact that multiple actors will play Harry Bosch hints that he will have a more integral role, even if he doesn’t become a season regular. Welliver will play the present-day version of the character, while Jack Meade-Mullarky will play young Harry in flashbacks. Without more information about the story, it’s impossible to predict which specific flashbacks will appear, but they could easily offer insight into his formative experiences as a detective.
Additionally, the ending of Ballard season 1 perfectly set up the character’s role in the story. Harry Bosch uncovered information about the corrupt police investigators, which isn’t actually his first foray into the world of conspiracies. He lifted 14 phone numbers from Anthony Driscoll’s phone, and three still remain unidentified. Given his past job and current involvement, he could help find the three remaining conspirators.
He also has the potential to influence the police conspiracy cases, since he uncovered crucial information. He very well might be subpoenaed in the trial, if it moves forward. His involvement in the legal cases as an expert witness would make up for the fact that he won’t ever appear in The Lincoln Lawyer alongside his half-brother, Mickey Haller.
Titus Welliver’s Role In Ballard Makes Up For The Bosch Prequel
Titus Welliver’s return as Bosch in Ballard season 2 is a great way to pay respect to the OG actor who made a whole audience fall in love with Harry Bosch. What’s more, it makes it easier to handle the fact that the mantle is being passed onto someone else in Bosch: Start of Watch. The upcoming Bosch prequel, which will debut on MGM+, will take viewers all the way back to 1991 Los Angeles at the start of Harry Bosch’s career as a police officer.

Cameron Monaghan will play Young Harry Bosch as the characters get trained by veteran training officer Eli Bridges, played by Omari Hardwick. They will shoot Bosch: Start of Watch on the streets of Los Angeles, and the press release from Amazon MGM Studios promises to be gritty and authentic, two words that perfectly describe the original Bosch series. It might be hard to think of another actor playing the beloved character, but Titus Welliver’s role in Ballard shows that multiple actors can bring Harry Bosch to life without canceling each other out.
