Tracy Morgan Comedy ‘Crutch’ Canceled By Paramount+ After 1 Season

To the surprise of noone, there will be no second season of Paramount+‘s multi-camera comedy series Crutch starring Tracy Morgan.

This is not new development. The eight-episode first season, which was taped in front of a live audience in fall 2024, was released on the streamer Nov. 3, 2025. The options on the cast expired at the end of last year, effectively ending the show.

But the fate of The Neighborhood offshoot from CBS Studios was sealed earlier in 2025, following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount+ and CBS Studios parent Paramount.

Days after the deal closed, Cindy Holland, Chair of Direct-to-Consumer who oversees Paramount+, spoke about the programming priorities for the streamer, admitting that multi-camera comedies won’t be a focus because CBS is “fantastic” in the genre and has all of the network’s sitcoms are available on Paramount+ next day.

Indeed, Crutch was the lone remaining original comedy series on Paramount+. There have been no comedy buys or orders, the streamer doesn’t even have a head of comedy (though Jane Wiseman, EVP, Head of Originals, DTC, comes from a comedy background.)

Morgan had already filmed Crutch when in March 2025 he was tapped to star in an NBC pilot from 30 Rock‘s Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, which became the series The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. He was in second position to the NBC series initially; by the May 2026 renewal for Season 2, the show already had him in first position after the lapse of his Crutch option.

The other Crutch cast members have also moved onto other projects.

Executive produced by Cedric the Entertainer and Eric C. Rhone and created by Owen Smith who served as executive producer and showrunner, Crutch was a rare multi-camera comedy with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Set in the world of CBS’ The Neighborhood, Crutch centers on its titular character Francois “Frank” Crutchfield (Morgan), who goes by “Crutch,” a brash, yet beloved Harlem shop owner whose world is turned upside down when his highbrow son and free-spirited daughter move back into the family home.

Jermaine Fowler, Kecia Lewis, Adrianna Mitchell, Adrian Martinez, Braxton Paul and Finn Maloney starred alonsgside Morgan. Aaron Kaplan for Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling for TrillTV, Mike Mariano and Morgan also executive produced.
