– Already renewed for season 8
Virgin River season 7 is on the way, but while filming has officially wrapped, we don’t have a release date… just yet. If you find yourself eagerly awaiting the return of this small-town drama filled with romance and revelations, hopefully you won’t have to wait too much longer.
Before we get ahead of ourselves though, here’s everything we know so far about Virgin River season 7 from confirmed cast, predicted release date, plot rumors, news and more.
Virgin River season 7: is there a release date?
Virgin River season 7 is definitely on the way, we just don’t know when quite yet, but there has been some hints. In October 2024, the cast confirmed the show was returning for another season with “more love, drama and small-town charm coming your way.”
And filming commenced in March 2025 with a couple of behind-the-scenes snaps shared to the show’s Instagram, and, after an Instagram post by Benjamin Hollingsworth, aka Brady, it was confirmed that filming officially wrapped in June.
But, when it comes to a release date, the biggest hint we’ve had so far is from Andrea Breckenridge (Mel Monroe herself) when speaking to Entertainment Weekly in mid-October: “There is a lot going on this year for Netflix. The finale of Stranger Things as a series is going to be a big deal.
“If I was an intelligent person, guessing, I would say I wouldn’t roll Virgin River out until the new year.” 2026 it seemingly is, then.
Virgin River season 7: has a trailer been released?
As with most returning Netflix shows, the Virgin River season 7 trailer will undoubtedly drop around a month before its released on the streamer.
Since that’s looking like early 2026 now, though this hasn’t been confirmed, I’d imagine a trailer won’t drop until late 2025 or early 2026 at best. I’ll keep my eyes peeled and update here as soon as it arrives.
Virgin River season 7: confirmed cast
Thanks to Tudum, we have a confirmed cast list for Virgin River season 7, as well as two new characters joining the show:
- Alexandra Breckenridge as Melinda Monroe
- Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan
- Tim Matheson as Vernon Mullins
- Annette O’Toole as Hope McCrea
- Colin Lawrence as John ‘Preacher’ Middleton
- Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady
- Zibby Allen as Brie Sheridan
- Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie
- Marco Grazzini as Mike
- Kai Bradbury as Denny Cutler
- Kandyse McClure as Kaia
- Sara Canning as Victoria
- Cody Kearsley as Clay
When it comes to the new additions joining Virgin River season 7, there’s thankfully a fair amount of intel about their roles.
As per Tudum, Sara Canning joins as “ex-cop Victoria, who was shot in the line of duty and now works for the state medical board as an investigator. Victoria comes to Virgin River to look into Doc’s practice but runs into a friend she wouldn’t mind catching up with… or maybe even pursuing something more.”
Whilst Cody Kearsley joins as “tough, athletic Clay. The kind of guy who gets noticed when he enters a room, Clay has experience working the rodeo circuit. He grew up in foster care with his younger sister, whom he hasn’t seen since he was a teenager. He’s been looking for her ever since.”
While Tudum’s list doesn’t include everyone we’d expect to see, like Teryl Rothery who plays Muriel, we’re sure there’ll be a place for her and many more returning cast members in Virgin River season 7.
Who won’t be returning though, at least as a series regular, is Muriel’s ex-lover, Dr. Cameron (Mark Ghanime). Speaking to TVLine, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, confirmed: “He will always be a part of the world, and I would love to see his character back, but he won’t be a series regular in season 7, unfortunately.”
Virgin River season 7: story synopsis and rumors
Full spoilers for Virgin River seasons 1-6 to follow.
Virgin River season 6 saw Mel and Jack finally tie the knot, Preacher cleared of all charges, and a shock finale that ended with a gasp. And when it comes to season 7, Smith told Tudum: “I think we’ve only just begun to see Mel and Jack function as a married couple, which is exciting.
Adding that season 7 will: “explore the honeymoon phase for them as they’re building their lives on the farm, which can come with its own obstacles.”
It’s no secret that Mel and Jack have faced turmoil, including the devastating loss of their baby in season 5, but one thing’s for sure when it comes to the pair, they’re built to last. Smith says: “I can’t imagine creating a scenario where you think Mel and Jack are going to break up.
“It forces you to dig a little bit deeper into, well, what other issues can they have in their relationship? Especially when you want to keep it through the romance lens. I think Alex and Martin play all of those [moments so well], it’s just resting on emotional stakes as opposed to ‘will they, won’t they’.
Of course, Mel and Jack aren’t the only lovebirds in Virgin River and small town romances have been rife throughout the show. There’s Hope and Doc, Preacher and Kaia, and Lizzie and Denny who are expecting their first baby, all of whom have confirmed to be returning for season 7.
But there was a cliffhanger to the Virgin River season 6 finale that fans are waiting to be addressed. As Jack headed to Charmaine’s to check on her and the twins, fathered by career criminal Calvin, he arrives to a seemingly-empty house, but when he goes to check on the kids, he gasps. And that’s the ending of season 6.
While Tudum hasn’t confirmed the return of Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), it appears we are going to get some answered as Breckenridge told EW: “I do know [what makes him gasp]. But I can’t tell you. It’s too big of a thing. I couldn’t possibly.” And now, I want Virgin River season 7 now more than ever.
But that’s not the only drama that emerged from the season 6 finale, and Breckenridge explains: “My favorite cliffhanger was when Mike tells Brie that he knows she slept with Brady. I was like, ‘What? He knows that she slept with someone else and he still wants to marry her. What’s that about?'”
Of course, there’s also Mel and Jack’s desire to have a baby together, and it looks like the pair could be considering adoption, especially considering Marley (Rachel Drance) told Mel she wanted her to have her baby in season 6.
And Breckenridge says season 6 isn’t the end of that: “The storyline with Marley and the baby does not disappear in season 7. It’s pretty heavily featured. I can’t tell you what happens with it, but I can tell you that it doesn’t disappear. It’s still there, and it’s something that me and Jack have to navigate through. It brings stuff up, of course.”
Will there be more seasons of Virgin River?
Great news, Virgin River season 8 has already been confirmed with Smith telling Tudum: “On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters.”
It’s an early renewal given Virgin River season 7 doesn’t even have a release date and the news makes the show Netflix’s longest-running currently original scripted series, as well as the longest-running English-language drama series.
The people want Virgin River and seemingly, they’re going to get it!
