Krys Marshall has been a huge part of For All Mankind for the past four seasons, appearing in the vast majority of the episodes of the series to date. However, her character, Danielle Poole, is noticeably absent from season 5, episode 1, which raises some concerning questions about the fate of the character and their future on the show.Due to the unique timeline of the series, namely the fact that every season jumps forward roughly 10 years, that means that Dani is now one of the most senior characters on the show. And after decades of subjecting her body to extreme conditions across multiple planets, her age may be catching up to her.
Of course, Dani is also very tough, and it would be surprising for the character to pass away off-screen. But that being said, she did experience a lot of stress and turmoil during her time on Mars in For All Mankind season 4.
Danielle Poole Survived Being Shot In The Chest During For All Mankind Season 4
In For All Mankind season 4, Dani was assigned to help lead NASA’s operations on Mars. As a seasoned astronaut and a member of the small crew that manned the first permanent habitation on the Moon and a leader on the first mission to Mars, Dani was uniquely qualified for the job. And of course, it helped that she had history with Ed Baldwin, one of the other Moon settlers, who had a lot of influence on the Red Planet.
However, despite her friendship with Ed and her laundry list of qualifications, she faced a lot of turmoil after returning to Mars to take over the base. This largely stemmed from Dani’s willingness to obey orders and Ed’s reluctance to follow rules that conflicted with his ideas of right and wrong and of what the future looks like.
While Ed and Dani had different opinions, other residents of the Mars base, such as Helios employees, felt that they were treated unfairly and that their hard work and efforts were being ignored in favor of making more money and abandoning Mars. In the ensuing conflict, Dani suffered a gunshot wound to the chest that could have easily killed her.
Now, season 4’s finale episode revealed that Dani survived and made her way back to Earth, but it could have cost her years of life to suffer such an injury at her already advanced age.
Dani Made A Guest Appearance In For All Mankind Season 5
Krys Marshall was confirmed to be joining the cast of For All Mankind season 5 prior to the show airing, but that confirmation amounted to her character appearing in a small guest role. Since much of season 5 happens on Mars, Danielle no longer fits in with the main story of the series.
Danielle was instrumental in earlier seasons of For All Mankind as she became one of the first people to live on the Moon, alongside her fellow astronauts Ed Baldwin and Gordo Stevens, and likewise, she played an important role in setting up the base on Mars. However, she has now retired from active duty and appears to be enjoying life Earth-side with her family.
However, she still clearly maintains a connection to people like Avery Stevens, whose father and grandfather served with on different missions. With that in mind, it’s possible that Danielle could be seen again in For All Mankind season 6 again in a guest role, or that her story is well and truly complete.
