Why Dr. Al-Hashimi Tells Robby About Her Secret In The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14’s Ending Detailed By Star

[

Warning: Major SPOILERS lie ahead for The Pitt season 2, episode 14, “8:00 P.M.”!After plenty of teasing, The Pitt season 2 has finally revealed Dr. Al-Hashimi’s big secret, but audiences are not the only ones who know the truth.

Played by The Deuce alum Sepideh Moafi, Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi is introduced in the new season of the hit HBO Max medical drama as a former Veteran Affairs physician who has been brought in to be the interim replacement of attending physician for Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby as he goes on sabbatical. While butting heads with him and some of the other residents, season 2 has also seen Dr. Al-Hashimi contending with some kind of personal affliction, freezing and dissociating while attending to various cases.

This all culminates in The Pitt season 2, episode 14, “8:00 P.M.,” in which, after making a rushed appointment with a doctor at the Pittsburgh Neuroscience Group, she turns to Robby for his medical opinion on a case involving a woman with a history of seizures going back over 30 years to her childhood, when she was infected with viral meningitis. Robby determines that the case is actually Baran’s, with the episode ending before he properly reacts to the news.

Now, with the season nearing an end, ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns interviewed Sepideh Moafi to discuss The Pitt season 2. When asked about Dr. Al-Hashimi’s decision to trust Dr. Robby with her secret of her seizure disorder, the star began by explaining that part of the reason was she wanted to “share part of herself” with Wyle’s character in the hopes “to get closer to him,” while also “trust[ing] his opinion.”

However, she also confessed that “she can’t appeal to the doctor in him,” despite the fact that much of The Pitt season 2 has seen “her proving herself throughout the day” to Dr. Robby. The star opined that the reason for this is “he’s so resistant to her,” and as such, has to appeal to a very different part of her counterpart:

Sepideh Moafi: She wonders, “Can I appeal to the wound in him because there’s a likeness there?” There’s a similarity. There’s a recognition of his wounded self and her wounded self. And she wonders if this experience can actually bring them closer.

Much of The Pitt season 2 has seen Dr. Al-Hashimi and Dr. Robby have an ever-changing dynamic, beginning on rocky ground as the latter proves very untrusting of the former in taking over his position while he’s gone. This mistrust has even escalated to the occasional bout of heated arguments, from his sharp approach to handling Supriya Ganesh’s Dr. Mohan being in a place of uncertainty for her career, to keeping Langdon’s rehab stay and medicine stealing from her.

All the same, The Pitt season 2 has seen Dr. Al-Hashimi and Dr. Robby showing moments of respect with one another, both in treating various patients, as well as their approach to teaching the fellows and the residents. Some have even taken to question if the pair have been dating each other in the lead up to her starting at the hospital, or at the very least knew each other from before the start of season 2.

Regardless of the specifics of their dynamic, Al-Hashimi trusting Robby with the secret of her seizure diagnosis is sure to be a major point of conflict going into The Pitt season 2. Much like her issue with Langdon returning to work at the hospital after his addiction problems, there’s a chance that Wyle’s character will argue Moafi’s is not capable to work and take over his position during his sabbatical.

This was seemingly teased in the trailer for The Pitt season 2’s finale, in which the two stepped into a room and had a heated discussion about whether she would be able to keep working. That being said, with a full hour to go for the season, and it still unclear whether Robby will ultimately go on his sabbatical, particularly after his emotional confession to Jeff Kober’s Duke that the hospital is the main thing keeping him from his suicidal thoughts, his arguing with Baran may could see him elect to stay.

Dr. Robby and his team in The Pitt season 2 seeming started as they look over a patient.

The Pitt Season 2’s Patient Log: All 41 Medical Cases Explained

The Pitt season 2 is off to an intense start with numerous patients arriving at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital as the day shift picks up.

There is also the possibility that The Pitt season 2 will end with Robby choosing to protect Al-Hashimi and be a support for her as she begins working with her neurologist through her latest seizure concerns. It would present Wyle’s character with a happier close to the season than the way much of his season 2 arc has played out, while also giving Moafi’s character an emotional path forward going into season 3.
