X-Men’s Latest Power Feat Settles The Debate, Storm Is A Literal God

Marvel confirms one X-Men hero has transcended her earthly roots to become a higher being with immense divine knowledge. The classification of mutant abilities in Marvel Comics is a complex hierarchy where the base of the spectrum are Epsilon-level mutants, whose mutations often manifest as non-combative or even detrimental physical traits. Moving up, Delta and Gamma-level mutants possess useful but limited powers that often come with significant physical social burdens.

At the absolute apex of the hierarchy sit the Omega-level mutants, officially defined as those whose specific power has no foreseeable upper limit. This category includes icons like Magneto, whose control over electromagnetism allows him to influence planetary structures, and Iceman, who can manipulate thermal energy on a molecular scale to achieve absolute zero. Even among Omegas, there are reality warpers who treat the laws of physics as mere suggestions. Legion and Jamie Braddock can pull the threads of reality like a cosmic loom, for example.

Marvel’s most powerful mutants sometimes feel less like superheroes and more like living forces of nature, especially when they break their own boundaries to transform into full-fledged gods.

Storm Knows Every Afterlife In Existence

Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant #3; Written by Murewa Ayodele; Art by Federica Mancin & Java Tartaglia

Ororo Munroe finds herself in the Elysian fields of the Ancient Greek Underworld, where she catches up with Japheth. Japheth reveals that uncharacteristic storms have been raging on, and Storm reveals she has been in every version of the afterlife realms that have ever existed, none of which resemble their respective ideas of paradise. Storm has even reunited with her mother, all within the span of a couple of months.

While she has long been classified as an Omega-level mutant with total control over the elements, recent arcs like Thunder War have seen Storm ascend beyond the limitations of mortal divinity. In her confrontation with Hadad, Storm demonstrated an absolute mastery of lightning, far surpassing the gods of ancient myth. Zeus, Susanoo, Shango, Chaac, Mamaragan, and Beta Ray Bill were completely overshadowed by Storm’s power. Ororo Munroe has returned to her more grounded nature, but she continues to be Marvel’s mutant God of the Storm.

Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant #3 is available from Marvel Comics on April 15.
