Xbox Game Pass Is Getting A Surprise Sequel In May

[

Xbox Game Pass still has a lot to prove in 2026. It needs to deliver on all the promises it’s made since the most recent price hike, and so far, it looks like it’s on that path. The addition of classic Final Fantasy games is a nice touch for Xbox Game Pass, but there’s much more on the horizon.

A new sequel is coming out for a beloved game, and it kind of came out of nowhere. Due out in May, this seems like the perfect kind of experience for Xbox Game Pass. With any luck, we’ll get even more in May.

Call Of The Sea Is Getting A Sequel

It Still Has Positive Reviews On Steam

Developer Out of the Blue Games has confirmed that the sequel to Call of the Sea is coming to Xbox Game Pass on May 12. It’s titled Call of the Elder Gods, and delivers an “epic adventure” with the characters Evangeline and Harry.

Call of the Sea was a pretty big success for Out of the Blue Games, debuting in 2020 and becoming an indie darling in the process. Set in 1934, you’ll explore a tropical island and discover occult dealings: “Join Norah, a woman plagued by a mysterious illness, in her search for her missing husband in this adventure puzzle game set on a lush island paradise. Immerse yourself in stunning visuals and unlock forbidden secrets in a moving tale of mystery and love.”

This time with the sequel, we have a new story with a new cast. Call of the Elder Gods injects more cosmic horror into the sequel, with Professor Harry Everhart and the student Evangeline Drayton aiming to uncover Lovecraftian secrets during their adventure: “Follow Harry Everhart and Evangeline Drayton as they search for the truth about their missing loved ones and come face-to-face with beings beyond their understanding. Inspired by H P Lovecraft’s ‘The Shadow out of Time’, Call of the Elder Gods features a fully voice-acted story of grief, family, and sanity, starring returning talents Yuri Lowenthal and Cissy Jones.”

Xbox Game Pass’ May Lineup Is Shaping Up Nicely

There’s A Lot On The Way

This is a pretty cool get for Xbox Game Pass in May, as modern adventure games can often be seen as a niche genre. Now more people will be able to easily check it out and get a taste of what it has to offer. Plus, since it seemingly operates with a new narrative and setting, it’s potentially perfect to jump into even if you haven’t played Call of the Sea.

As a fan of the original (particularly its aesthetics and style), Xbox Game Pass is getting a potential heavy-hitter for May. Hopefully, the rest of the month will have a killer lineup, as fans expect the eventual release of Final Fantasy 5 on the platform, following the prior drops of Final Fantasy 1-4.
