Marshals has spent its first season showing that Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) can take the man out of the ranch, but he’s still going to think like a Dutton when things get ugly. That’s exactly what happens in our exclusive sneak peek from the newest episode, which picks up after one of the show’s darkest cliffhangers yet. The team’s running out of time, the girls they’re trying to save are still missing, and the next lead takes them straight to a violent motorcycle gang. In other words, this one isn’t exactly shaping up to be a quiet day at work.
In the sneak peek, Kayce and his Marshals team surround a biker clubhouse while trying to figure out their next move, but they’re badly outnumbered, and storming the place head-on clearly isn’t the smartest option. So Kayce does what he does best and comes up with a move that feels ripped right out of the Dutton playbook — he sets the gang’s choppers on fire, taking out the one thing they’d never want touched and throwing the whole clubhouse into chaos before giving his team the signal to move in. Perfection. That strategy also fits perfectly with where the story is right now. According to the official synopsis.
“After losing the trail of teen trafficking victims, Kayce must tell Tate that his friend may be gone for good; when the Marshals learn the girls are in the hands of a violent motorcycle gang, they launch a dangerous op to infiltrate the gang.”
The full main cast of Marshals includes Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, Logan Marshall-Green as Cal Macready, Arielle Kebbel as Andrea, Ash Santos as Belle, Tatanka Means as Miles, Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton, Mo Brings Plenty as Mo, and Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater.
A Lightning Round of Riveting Historical Dramas in the Collider TV Quiz!
Television has long been a modern touchstone for events of the past. Let’s look at eight shows that look at eight moments in history.
Is ‘Marshals’ Worth a Watch?
Collider’s review stated that Marshals made the smart move of not trying to be a direct Yellowstone sequel, sidling instead into a network TV-style series that gives Kayce a new beginning — even if the transition comes with some growing pains to begin with. Collider’s Michael John Petty acknowledged the limitations of network television — less grit, occasional repetitive dialogue, and tighter 42-minute pacing — but suggested that the format ultimately suits Kayce’s story better than the sprawling soap-operatic tone of Yellowstone. He wrote:
“Marshals is a neo-Western that is chock-full of potential. It’s action-packed, thrilling, and full of everything you could ask for in a Kayce Dutton-led series that fights hard to divorce itself from the ‘Y’ that still lingers in the background. It’s not perfect, nor does it claim to be, but once it gets through the initial growing pains, it will be able to stand firmly on its own. The chemistry between Grimes and Marshall-Green is exactly what the bond between two ex-SEALs should be, and it’s not hard to like the rest of the Marshals cast as well, especially as we begin to learn more about them.”
Marshals airs at 8 PM on CBS every Sunday, and streams on Paramount+. Stay tuned at Collider for further updates.
