While network shows and other streamers have experienced a massive surge in popularity, it’s Netflix that currently boasts this year’s most-watched series. As it turns out, the streamer doesn’t only need long-running phenoms like Stranger Things or Bridgerton to set records. What makes it even better is that this Netflix Original is a complete, limited series, so there’s no need to worry about it being renewed.
Based on the book of the same name by Alice Feeney, His & Hers debuted on Netflix on January 8, 2026, and became an immediate hit with subscribers. His & Hers features an estranged couple, played by Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson, who find themselves at odds when they become involved in a string of brutal, small-town murders. Despite a title reminiscent of a romantic comedy, the limited series is actually a tense, psychological thriller.
The series spent seven weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 (via Tudum). The drama held onto the top spot for three weeks and only lost its place after Bridgerton season 4 debuted. A show premiering at the beginning of the month and staying in the Top 10 until late the following month doesn’t happen often on Netflix — or any other streamer, for that matter — but His & Hers absolutely did. Since then, His & Hers has even cracked Netflix’s Top 10 most popular series of all time list, knocking The Night Agent season 1 off the number 10 spot with 98.2 million views.
His & Hers didn’t just beat the competition on Netflix. In a list of the top 20 most-watched shows that premiered between January 1 and March 15, His & Hers stands firm at no. 1, higher than three Taylor Sheridan shows, The Pitt season 2, and Game of Thrones’ highly anticipated spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Tessa Thompson & Jon Bernthal Are At The Center Of A Captivating Mystery In Netflix’s His & Hers
To lead His & Hers, Netflix recruited two recognizable actors, both of whom already have hit shows to their names. Tessa Thompson had a key role on Westworld through the first four seasons before the show’s unexpected cancellation, while Jon Bernthal’s most recent TV projects have included Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel’s The Punisher Special Presentation, and FX’s Emmy-winning dramedy, The Bear.
It’s no surprise that Thompson and Bernthal are excellent co-leads, though actors aren’t guaranteed to have chemistry just because they’re skilled on screen. Fortunately, sparks fly between Thompson’s news reporter Anna Andrews and Bernthal’s Detective Jack Harper from the start, despite the couple’s separation.
Without going too deep into spoiler territory, the show centers on former news anchor Anna as she chases down leads on a murder case in the small Georgian town where she grew up. This puts her back in contact with Jack, her estranged husband, who is officially assigned to the case as a detective and doesn’t quite trust Anna’s involvement.
Though it occasionally strays from the source material, His & Hers succeeds in a way that other book adaptations haven’t. Rather than worrying about backlash, the limited series offers an incredibly shocking but conclusive twist ending, making the audience’s investment worth it. There’s a reason it became so popular for so long, and the show’s two leads are a massive part of His & Hers’ appeal.
His & Hers’ Limited Series Format Makes For A Perfect Binge-Watch
His & Hers is an ideal binge-watch; catching up on the show’s entire run won’t take too long, as there are only six episodes. The longest episode clocks in at 47 minutes, while the shortest runs at 39 minutes. In total, you can watch all of His & Hers in under four and a half hours. That’s only an hour more than an extended edition viewing of The Lord of the Rings. When the story is this good, it’s worth it.
Plus, there are perks to getting attached to a limited series on Netflix, considering the platform’s history of canceling shows. Bernthal was even involved in one of Netflix’s worst cancellations when it canceled Marvel’s Daredevil after three seasons (before the show was revived on Disney+).
His & Hers Cast & Character Guide: Who Stars In Netflix’s Adaptation Of Alice Feeney’s Bestseller
Get to know the starry cast of His & Hers, a thrilling Netflix adaptation of the bestselling murder mystery novel by author Alice Feeney.
Though even limited series aren’t immune to renewal these days, there are no pressing story threads left at the end of His & Hers. It’s a fully solved mystery. Viewers can sit down to binge without worrying about a cliffhanger ending that might never be paid off. Even if His & Hers does somehow come back, another season won’t ruin how well the show paced itself through six episodes. It doesn’t let up for a second. Now, anyone who didn’t help make His & Hers the most-watched show of 2026 can help it defend its spot on Netflix’s Top 10 TV shows of all time list.
