Young Sheldon Reemerges Ahead Of Schedule In New Franchise Series

In a week, Young Sheldon is reemerging earlier than initially perceived. The franchise’s very first spinoff went back in time to tackle Sheldon’s famed childhood in Texas. Inspired by his wild stories in the flagship, Young Sheldon not only revealed some of his most interesting experiences before moving to California, but it also fleshed out the members of the Cooper family in a way that fully endeared them to the audience.

Because of the timing of their releases, the flagship didn’t really have many crossovers with Young Sheldon. The only one came late in its run, during the final stretch of Sheldon and Amy’s bid for the Nobel Prize in Physics. Now, however, Chuck Lorre’s new expansion show with Bill Prady and Zak Penn is somehow making amends with Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. The Kevin Sussman-led show could not be any more different than the more grounded Young Sheldon, with its multiversal narrative, but that’s exactly why the Easter egg is extra intriguing.

1 Alternate Stuart Fails To Save The Universe Reality Pays Homage To Young Sheldon

Ahead of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe‘s release, HBO Max has ramped up their marketing efforts, including the release of new promotional stills from the show. That includes a couple of images from TVLine, which have been posted on their official Instagram account. One particular photo stands out among the bunch, as the imagery looks very familiar, albeit not anywhere from The Big Bang Theory. Instead, the still of Stuart and Denise standing in front of their kitchen and staring at the Vari-State Quantum Entanglement Device is reminiscent of the visuals of Young Sheldon.

For starters, Denise is dressed up very much like Mary, with her pink A-line dress. Even her hair is styled similar to how Sheldon’s mother used to do it in the early ’90s — only Lauren Lapkus is also sporting bangs. It’s worth noting that she doesn’t dress like this in The Big Bang Theory and in any of the previous images released for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Stuart’s get-up isn’t really George’s look, except for the button-down shirt he’s wearing inside his striped cardigan. The counter’s square ceramic tiles are the same as the ones the Coopers had in their Medford home, as well as the yellow walls in the kitchen.

Young Sheldon Will Have A New Release In October

Whether this Young Sheldon-inspired imagery connects Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is uncertain for now. Considering the show’s multiversal story, Lorre, Prady, and Penn have a lot of ways to incorporate the Coopers’ story from the ’90s in the new sequel, despite the timeline discrepancy. In any case, this reemergence from the prequel is taking place ahead of Young Sheldon‘s previously-announced new release that is set in the fall.

Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy is an upcoming book that goes behind-the-scenes of the creation of the series. Beyond that, it promises details about stories that were cut and lingering mysteries from the CBS show that were left unanswered. As great as the Young Sheldon finale was, it was no secret that its truncated final year forced the series to breeze through some events, while cutting others entirely. Those are expected to be revisited and tackled in the new project.
