Zelda Meets Animal Crossing In Huge New Free Open-World RPG Coming September 2026

[

A huge new open-world RPG that features elements from The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing is arriving for free in September, and you may want to have this game on your radar so that you don’t miss out on it. Several new titles are scheduled to arrive during this year’s second semester, all of which pale in comparison to the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6, on November 19. Even so, there are many games that are worthy of your attention, and one of these titles is arriving next month, bringing with it promising gameplay opportunities.

As was reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, a brand-new open-world RPG is set to arrive on September 15, information that was actually revealed as the game’s pre-orders went live on multiple digital storefronts. The new game had already been announced, and fans of anime-like visual art and creature-collecting mechanics may enjoy what it has to offer, especially considering how vast its open-world map promises to be. On top of that, the game is entirely free, though the pre-orders are for special editions that contain extra in-game goodies.

The game in question is called Aniimo. Developed by Pawprint Interactive, Aniimo promises to challenge Palworld’s reign in defying the Pokémon franchise. Like its competitors, Aniimo is a creature-collecting game, in which you encounter, capture, and raise monsters, using them to battle. The difference from Palworld, however, is that it isn’t a survival game, so you won’t be endlessly farming for resources. Instead, you’ll have a structured adventure set in an open-world map, a lot more like the Gen 9 Pokémon games in that sense.

Aniimo is a real-time action-based RPG, meaning that it differs from the majority of the Pokémon games – the exception being Pokémon Legends: Z-A. As was mentioned, the open-world Aniimo is completely free, so you won’t need a PS Plus or Xbox Game Pass membership to play it on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, respectively. It will also be released on PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), as well as on mobile devices, both iOS and Android.

While Aniimo is fully free-to-play, you can pre-order the Advanced or Collector’s Edition. According to the PlayStation Lifestyle report, the Advanced Edition comes with a companion friend accessory, the Battle Pass: Advanced Companion Handbook, which contains a Companion Handbook-Exclusive Prismana Aniimo Egg, Companion Handbook-Exclusive Evolution Material, and other rewards. The Collector’s Edition contains the same as the Advanced Edition, plus an exclusive Doll and an exclusive Avatar Frame.

The PlayStation version comes with the Fluffy companion, while the Xbox version features the Doggo Dude companion. Fueled by open-world fantasy and creature-based quirkiness, it’s obvious how Aniimo is also inspired by games like Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda, apart from the Pokémon series. This is one of the most promising RPGs this semester, so be sure to check it out in September.
