Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake Demo Lets You Explore Iconic Location

[

There’s no doubt that the announcement of the official The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake was an exciting one, bringing back one of the most believed games in many peoples’ childhoods for a new generation. The rumors had been swirling for some time before that, but to see it confirmed, however briefly, was a pretty special moment.

We don’t have a completely confirmed release date for that just yet, though we do know it’s coming down the pipeline this year. While we wait, there are certainly worse things we can do than to fill our time with Zelda goodness, and one release in particular has just released a new demo that’s well worth your time.

In case you haven’t been following along, experienced fan developer CryZENx has been working on a full remake for Ocarina of Time, and progress has been very impressive. Over on YouTube, you can see their latest upload, featuring the “Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly” quest and the climactic fight against Barinade.

Everything featured has fully functional gameplay mechanics, and it’s that which sets it apart from many of the fan showcases we have seen to date. The demo utilizes Unreal Engine 5.7.4, with the real legwork being done by Lumen and Ray Tracing, which has really improved the light levels across the board.

As you might expect, the comments from fans were predictably complimentary, with one saying, “I remember back around 2016 when I first saw your work I was put off by the realistic visuals, but it slowly grew on me overtime. Glad to see you’re still working on it and I’m surprised the official remake looks so similar! I think I’m more excited to see yours finish than the official to be honest.”

While another added, “They really should have hired him for the remake. His graphics, lighting, atmosphere, texture work, and overall visual presentation look way more polished than what we saw in the trailer, at least in my opinion. We only saw a glimpse while CryZENx has showed us so many of our beloved locations in the game with his beautiful art style. Obviously, we still have to wait and see how the official version turns out, and I do hope it ends up being amazing, but there is no denying how impressive CryZENx’s work has been over the years.”

All of the downloads are available via Patreon, though you will have to sign up to a paid tier to get the version with uncapped FPS. They also have similar work on other games in the series, so it’s well worth checking out if you’re a fan of the franchise.

Other than that, all we can do is wait to hear more from Nintendo themselves about their release plans for the official Ocarina of Time remake. We should get a gameplay reveal in relatively short order, along with the accurate date and price around the same period.
