3 Best Movies To Watch On Netflix This Weekend (#1 Is A Scarlett Johansson Sci-Fi Hit That Made 11x Its Budget)

[

Netflix has had a wave of exciting movies coming to the streaming service to start April, and three of them emerge as the ones subscribers should turn their attention to over the month’s first weekend. On last weekend’s Netflix movie recommendations list, I talked about Anatomy of a Fall, Anaconda, and The Creator, exploring three different genres.

To start April, I believe that, looking at Netflix’s movie roster, the best path of action for the weekend is to repeat that. These three movies come in different shapes and forms, with a couple being action-packed releases that will get viewers’ blood pumping, while the other is a romantic fantasy that could leave some of you sobbing. All three arrived on Netflix on April 1.

The Age Of Adaline (2015)

Starting us off is the most different entry on the list, which is The Age of Adaline. While its audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is not quite high at 67%, the movie is a personal favorite. Netflix’s latest rom-com is for any fan of the genre who likes a little something added to their romantic stories.

In The Age of Adaline‘s case, it is the fact that Blake Lively’s Adaline stopped aging at 29 years old after a car accident. This completely changes her life, messing up her relationships and more. The film’s choice to use actor Anthony Ingruber as a young version of Harrison Ford’s William Jones is spectacular, as not only does he have chemistry with Lively, but Ingruber is well-known as a Ford impersonator.

Mission: Impossible (1996)

Next up is a spy thriller that started one of the most beloved movie franchises of all time. At this point, pretty much everyone must have watched at least one of Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible movies. However, the franchise only really exploded in popularity in its modern era, meaning from 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol onward.

Well, if you have never watched how it all began, Netflix has got you covered, with the arrival of five Mission: Impossible movies, one of them being the 1996 entry that started it all. Mission: Impossible features a young Ethan Hunt, who has to find out who is framing him for the murders of his IMF team. Expect plenty of thrills.

1

Lucy (2014)

Finally, the last entry on the list is Lucy, which is one of Scarlett Johansson’s most successful sci-fi movies. In the film, Johansson plays Lucy Miller, an American studying abroad in Taipei, who is forced to become a drug mule. When the synthetic drug CPH4 is inserted in her body for transportation, Lucy gains powers like time travel, telekinesis, and more.

Lucy made $469 million worldwide on a tight $40 million budget.

After Mission: Impossible, Lucy is the perfect follow-up to end the weekend on Netflix on a high, pun intended. Johansson has shown in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that she excels in action scenes, and Lucy is just a non-stop thrill ride as she takes on her captors, ending in a mind-bending moment.

All of these new arrivals on Netflix promise to be engaging watches over the weekend, with the last two working as a double feature.
