Serial winners UConn face March Madness’ standout team Michigan tonight in a National Championship game fit for the occasion. The Huskies have had a tougher time of things, as demonstrated by their 19-point deficit to Duke at the Elite Eight stage, which means they should be hardened for battle. Before Tarris Reed Jr., who started out at Michigan, only two other players had ever racked up 100 points and 60 rebounds before the National Championship game.
The individual battles between Silas Demary Jr. and Lendeborg, Alex Karaban and Morez Johnson, and Reed and Mara will be fascinating, but the key to victory appears to lie in a bigger-picture tactical battle. Michigan’s furious pace of play has left its opponents in a tailspin, but on the rare occasion they’ve been forced to play slow, they’ve struggled.
UConn are masters of game management, and they’ll need to use all of their tricks at Lucas Oil Stadium.
