Marvel May Have Finally Set Up Daredevil’s Avengers Movie Debut

Season 2, episode 4 of Daredevil: Born Again may have been responsible for setting up Daredevil finally fighting alongside the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though it comes out during the final stages of the Multiverse Saga, the New York-based series has kept its focus on Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk’s ongoing war at a street level.

No one has been expecting major connections to other universes or setup for what’s coming in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. But there remains steadfast support for Charlie Cox’s super lawyer to get a chance to join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on the big screen in one of the two upcoming Avengers films, dated for December 2026 and 2027.

So far, Daredevil is not confirmed for a role in either, but Cox has expressed his desire to be in either Avengers, saying last year, “I think it’s more possible than it’s ever been, yeah. I would love to be in one of the Avengers films, or another Spider-Man, or something like that.” Marvel Studios might have just delivered the first tease that he’ll get that opportunity.

After speculation mounted that Uatu the Watcher is in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4, the Easter egg has been confirmed by Marvel Studios producer Brad Winderbaum. As a result, this looks like the first sign of Daredevil’s destiny to join the Avengers by the end of the Multiverse Saga.

The Watcher’s Daredevil: Born Again Cameo Links Daredevil To The MCU’s Larger Multiverse Story

The moment in question comes at the conclusion of Fisk’s boxing match as Daredevil tackles Bullseye through the window and they both flee from the scene. At the 47:25 mark of the episode, the hole in the window looks eerily similar to Uatu the Watcher, spawning theories that the all-powerful multiversal guardian is keeping an eye on Matt Murdock’s vigilante activities.

Uatu’s role in the multiverse is to observe all. He’s responsible for maintaining the integrity of the multiverse without interfering, even if he has from time to time during Marvel’s What If…? series. The character has gone on to have cameos in I Am Groot, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Eyes of Wakanda, and Marvel Zombies, several of which are multiversal stories.

This has connected Uatu to characters like Captain Carter, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Reed Richards, and now, potentially, Daredevil. In many instances, he’s recruited heroes to help protect the multiverse, with Kahhori, Byrdie the Duck, and Storm currently the remaining Guardians of the Multiverse after What If…? season 3’s ending.

Uatu is one of the preeminent characters in the Multiverse Saga thanks to his power, position, and previous appearances. And with Born Again‘s Watcher Easter egg, Daredevil now has a direct link to the multiversal story the Avengers will soon embark on.

Secret Wars Is More Likely For Daredevil’s Avengers Movie Debut Than Doomsday

Marvel has two opportunities to bring Daredevil into the Avengers franchise, but Secret Wars‘ production seems like the more likely spot for Cox to participate. He’s currently filming Born Again season 3 in New York and will be doing so for the next several months, which overlaps with Doomsday‘s additional photography in the UK.

With Born Again season 3 releasing after Doomsday, Cox being absent would allow the next season of Daredevil to avoid trying to awkwardly dance around any connections to the fifth Avengers. It can more easily exist as a story that takes place prior to whatever multiversal events unfold upon Doctor Doom’s arrival.

But after incursions ravage the multiverse as expected in Doomsday, there could be more opportunities for Daredevil to be in Secret Wars. It could work better from a production schedule standpoint, as well as from a story/universe-building perspective.

Matt could be an active participant in the resolution, possibly as Uatu’s next recruit or a formal member of a new Avengers team. He could also just have a cameo to establish him as part of the reset MCU timeline post-Secret Wars. In either case, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 may be subtly laying the groundwork for Daredevil to finally be featured in the Avengers franchise.
