10 Best New Movies Coming To Prime Video In May 2026

[

Each month, Amazon Prime Video adds new movies to its extensive catalog and May is set to feature some incredible films. With more than 20,000 movie options, Prime Video has the largest library available on any major streaming service and it’s only getting better this month. Among the films being added are Best Picture winners, blockbuster musicals, action franchises, hilarious comedies, hidden gems, and legitimate classics.

With so many new additions, narrowing it down to the best is difficult. Not included here, but joining Prime Video this month, are the likes of All Dogs Go to Heaven, Babe, Get Shorty, Scarface, Spies in Disguise, Jeepers Creepers, and more. This has flown under the radar because the biggest additions to Prime Video in May are the TV shows, with a new season of Citadel on the horizon, as well as the exciting debut of Spider-Noir. With the focus on those releases, this fantastic slate of new movie arrivals has been overlooked by too many.

On top of some great classics hitting Prime Video, there’s also an exciting movie arriving that’s a spin-off of one of the platform’s most popular TV series. All together, it makes for a great time to be a Prime Video subscriber and these movies are worth a viewing as soon as they become available to users.

Missing (2023)

In 2018, Searching became a surprise hit and was praised for its unique approach, telling a mystery story completely through computer and smartphone screens. 2023 saw a sequel that wasn’t totally connected to the original, yet followed the same basic premise. Missing, also told through screens, follows a young girl who is on a desperate search for her mother, who disappears while on vacation with her new boyfriend.

Reviews for Missing were solid, it performed moderately well at the box office, and the performance of Storm Reid carried things. Not enough people know about this movie, so having it hit Prime on May 20 should open it to more eyes.

Dallas Buyers Club (2013)

“The McConaissance” was a nickname given to the few years where it seemed like Matthew McConaughey couldn’t miss. The actor stole the show in The Wolf of Wall Street, was great in the hidden gem Mud, was part of a stellar TV series in True Detective, and led one of the best films of the decade in Interstellar.

Yet, the best McConaughey performance ever is likely from Dallas Buyers Club. He took home the Best Actor Academy Award for his work as Ron Woodroof, a man diagnosed with AIDs who smuggles unapproved drugs into Texas to treat himself and others. The film arrives on May 1.

Hot Fuzz (2007)

Edgar Wright’s Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy is about as good as it gets when it comes to comedy. Each installment does a great job of parodying a genre, with Shaun of the Dead tackling horror and The World’s End doing sci-fi. Hot Fuzz, the middle entry, is a parody of action films and it arrives on May 1.

An argument could be made that Hot Fuzz is the funniest of them all. Simon Pegg plays Nicholas Angel, a high-achieving police officer who gets transferred to a small town where he works with Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) after they find out that not everything in this town is as it seems.

On May 21, one of the most interesting movies of the month hits Prime Video. Blink Twice is the directorial debut of actor Zoë Kravitz and it’s a chilling thriller with a fantastic cast. The premise centers on a group of women brought to a private island by a billionaire, only to learn that he and his friends have something sinister planned.

Channing Tatum is unnerving as the billionaire, while Naomi Ackie and Adria Arjona do fantastic work as the characters we’re meant to root for. Add in Alia Shawkat, Geena Davis, Christian Slater, Simon Rex, and more, and this is a loaded film. Kravitz made a stunning debut, and we look forward to more from her.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War (2026)

Over the years, we have seen many versions of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. From the days of The Hunt for Red October to the 2014 film starring Chris Pine, Ryan has been a staple of the big screen. However, the Jack Ryan series starring John Krasinski has been one of the best iterations.

The series ran from 2018 through 2023, yet is back in film form on May 20. Jack Ryan: Ghost War brings Krasinski back, along with the likes of Wendell Pierce and Betty Gabriel, while also introducing Sienna Miller. Judging by the trailer, fans of the show will likely love this follow-up.

Mamma Mia! (2008)

Before Wicked dominated at the box office, Mamma Mia! was the highest-grossing musical movie adaptation of a stage play. The film features the music of ABBA, performed by its tremendous cast that includes Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, and more.

Mamma Mia! is the kind of feel-good movie that’s easy to rewatch. Longtime fans will find it on Prime Video on May 1, while people who are just discovering it for the first time will likely want to watch it again and again. On top of being a commercial hit, Mamma Mia! was also up for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes.

Beginners (2010)

Beginners tells a fascinating story that hits hard emotionally and is grounded. Based on the writer/director’s own experiences, the film centers on Oliver Fields as his 75-year-old father comes out to him as gay, changing the rest of their lives, even if it is only for a few years.

Ewan McGregor does some of his best work as the lead, while Christopher Plummer is incredible as the father, winning an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and more for his performance. Beginners also features Mélanie Laurent and can be viewed on Prime Video starting May 1.

Goodfellas (1990)

There aren’t many movies more iconic than Goodfellas. While there are many options for what the best gangster film in history is, from The Godfather to American Gangster, Goodfellas is very much in that conversation, while also being among Martin Scorsese’s greatest works.

Arriving on Prime Video on May 1, people can now see how the story of mafia associate Henry Hill played out. Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco, and more round out a tremendous cast. The film holds a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has withstood the test of time remarkably well.

Do The Right Thing (1989)

Spike Lee is one of the most accomplished and impressive filmmakers in Hollywood history. Picking out his best movie is a tall task but on May 1, Prime Video gets Do the Right Thing, which is certainly in the conversation and has managed to remain as poignant as ever several decades later.

Do the Right Thing takes place on a hot summer day in Brooklyn and focuses on the simmering racial tensions between the Black people and the Italian-American owners of a pizzeria in the neighborhood. Lee landed a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination for his script of this timeless classic.

One Battle After Another (2025)

The most recent Best Picture winner is the most exciting film hitting Prime Video this month, arriving on May 23. Plenty of people still haven’t seen this critically acclaimed movie from Paul Thomas Anderson and now they can use their Prime subscriptions to fix that.

One Battle After Another follows a former revolutionary (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his daughter (Chase Infiniti) as they get chased down by a corrupt military officer (Sean Penn). Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Benicio Del Toro round out one of the best casts in recent memory, making for a special movie that everyone should see.
