After a rather underwhelming return, Prime Video’s would-be flagship series has dropped out of the viewership charts entirely in its second week of release. The latest Nielsen report tracks viewership in the week of May 11 to May 17, when the most-watched streaming title was The Roast of Kevin Hart, which generated over 1.3 billion minutes watched. Netflix found success with Nemesis, which accumulated more than 830 million minutes watched in its first week, while Prime Video itself knocked it out of the park with the final season of The Boys, which crossed the 1 billion minutes watched mark. However, things went from bad to worse for the streamer’s mega-budget action-thriller Citadel.
The series returned for a second season on May 6, and according to Nielsen, scored 438 million minutes viewed. This was good enough only for a seventh-place finish, behind legacy titles such as Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, and Family Guy. In its second week of release, Citadel appears to have dropped out of the Nielsen top 10 entirely. It was also not included on the original series chart, where only two Prime Video titles — The Boys and Off Campus — found spots during the week of May 11 to May 17.

Amazon Will Now Focus on Introducing James Bond to the Small Screen
Citadel was conceived as an ambitious shared universe, with Amazon hiring Joe RussoandAnthony Russo, fresh off their success at Marvel Studios, to oversee the project. However, creative disputes led to the first season essentially being shot twice, and its budget ballooned to a reported $300 million. Production on the second season was reportedly not a cakewalk either, which is why Prime Video delayed its release. Starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Richard Madden, Stanley Tucciand others, Citadel has received mixed reviews. It holds an overall 61% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Incidentally, the franchise’s two spin-offs — Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny — both received better reviews, but were canceled by Prime Video after a change in leadership. The Russos’ Netflix mega-budget movies, The Gray Man and The Electric State, received poor reviews and failed to spawn franchises like they were supposed to. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
