Brad Bird On A ‘Ratatouille’ Sequel: “No, We Told That Story”

Ratatouille director Brad Bird is not open to a sequel to the Disney and Pixar animated film.

In a new interview, the filmmaker revealed that he has been asked about a potential follow-up to the 2007 film, but is not open to it.

“They’ve made little feints towards that to see how I would react. They’ll, like, crack a joke, but the joke will be a little bit serious, like, ‘Would you?’ And I’m like, ‘No, we told that story,’” Bird said in an interview with Collider.

He continued, “Any time you do something that ends up connecting with people, they automatically think, ‘How about another?’ People have mentioned it about The Iron Giant, which is hilarious to me because the film didn’t succeed at all in its initial release. It’s caught up in time, but what would you do to follow that up? He’s lumbering around, still undiscovered? In other words, to me, that story is told.”

Ratatouille is a 2007 film that Bird wrote and directed about a young rat, Remy, who is determined to become a French chef. Patton Oswalt voiced Remy while other voice actors included Lou Romano, Ian Holm, Brian Dennehy, Peter Sohn, Peter O’Toole, Brad Garrett, Jeaneane Garofalo, and Will Arnett, to name a few.

Although Bird is not keen on a sequel to Ratatouille, he’s willing to make another installment of The Incredibles, telling the publication, “I could see another Incredibles film.”

Bird also wrote and directed The Incredibles, which was released in 2004. The animated film about a superhero family received a sequel in 2018, 14 years after the first. A third installment is set for release in 2028.

Ratatouille continues to be remembered by audiences and Disney park-goers who visit Disneyland Paris and Epcot in Florida, where they can experience the film through its own attraction. The Incredibles also has an attraction at Disney California Adventure, where guests can live their own adventure on the “Incredicoaster.”
