Power Rangers Is Bringing Back Wild Force & Dino Thunder For A New Era

There have been countless iconic Power Rangers lineups across the franchise’s 30-plus-year history, but 1993’s Mighty Morphin’ remains the best known. However, every incarnation of the team has developed its own loyal following. Unfortunately, fans who prefer different eras to MMPR have often become accustomed to being somewhat sidelined when it comes to merchandise, particularly when it comes to toys and action figures.

Of all the non-MMPR teams, few are as quietly beloved as Power Rangers Wild Force and Power Rangers Dino Thunder. Wild Force aired in 2002 and 2003, replacing the original team’s martial-arts focus with a nature-inspired group of Rangers who drew their powers from animals. Then came 2004’s Dino Thunder, which returned the franchise to its dinosaur roots while adding a veteran Ranger, MMPR‘s original Green Ranger Tommy Oliver, to a new team of teenagers.

For years, Dino Thunder and Wild Force have felt somewhat overlooked by the companies holding the Power Rangers licensing rights, especially compared with the constant stream of MMPR merchandise. That, however, is about to change. At SDCC 2026, Playmates debuted the next two waves of its Power Rangers Unlimited Collection, revealing that the 6-inch collector-focused line will bring Wild Force and Dino Thunder back to life as premium action figures.

Dino Thunder & Wild Force Join Zeo In Power Rangers’ Unlimited Collection

Playmates’ Power Rangers Unlimited Collection is shaping up to be a major win for fans, especially those who are tired of the constant wave of Mighty Morphin’ toys. The 6” figures feature 22 points of articulation and are designed with collectors in mind, just like Hasbro’s celebrated and sadly-discontinued Power Rangers Lightning Collection.

The first wave of the Power Ranger Unlimited Collection was announced by Playmates a few weeks prior to ComicCon. Initially called the Power Rangers Collectors Series, the Unlimited Collection announcement surprised fans by focusing on Power Rangers Zeo rather than Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. This break from the MMPR-heavy approach seen across much of the franchise’s merchandise was a shock, as Playmates’ own Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Re-Ignition line once again focused on the original Ranger team.

The choice of Power Rangers Zeo for Wave 1 was already significant, but Playmates’ SDCC 2026 presentation made the collection considerably more exciting. Waves 2 and 3 will focus on Power Rangers Wild Force and Power Rangers Dino Thunder, respectively, bringing those teams into the same 6-inch format as the Zeo figures. The announcement also confirms that alongside exploring beyond MMPR, Playmates is not simply working through the franchise in chronological order, opening the door for even more unexpected teams to receive premium collector treatment.

For fans whose favorite Ranger team arrived after the Mighty Morphin’ era, that is particularly important. Hasbro’s Lightning Collection produced some Rangers from later seasons, but its abrupt cancellation left many teams incomplete. The Unlimited Collection is revisiting those eras with a more focused approach, giving collectors complete lineups of beloved squads like Zeo, Dino Thunder, and Wild Force rather than isolated releases of specific Rangers.

Power Rangers Has More To Offer Than Just Mighty Morphin’

The excitement surrounding the fact that Playmates’ Unlimited Collection action figure range is kicking off with Zeo, Wild Force, and Dino Thunder reveals an important truth about the franchise: Power Rangers can succeed when it looks beyond Mighty Morphin’. MMPR has dominated merchandise for decades because it remains the franchise’s most recognizable era, with its original Rangers, villains, Zords, costumes, and iconic imagery repeatedly returning across toys, video games, comics, and other products.

However, the response to the Unlimited Collection demonstrates that nostalgia for Power Rangers isn’t limited to the MMPR team. Zeo, Wild Force, and Dino Thunder each represent different generations of fans, and their inclusion gives collectors a reason to invest in characters they may have grown up with. That is especially valuable after Lightning Collection ended, leaving fans of many seasons without a consistent premium action-figure line.

This could become even more important if the upcoming Disney+ reboot introduces Power Rangers to a new generation. A successful reboot would not erase the appeal of the franchise’s history; it could make that history more valuable by encouraging new fans to explore older seasons. The Unlimited Collection suggests Playmates understands that the brand has more than 30 years of material to draw from. Rather than continually returning to MMPR, Power Rangers can mine its entire history for new toys and merchandise and still see just as much success.
