There were lofty expectations coming into the year for Netflix as the biggest streamer in the world, and now more than halfway through 2026, it’s safe to say the streamer has delivered plenty of important projects. One of the first movies that rings to mind is War Machine, the sci-fi thriller starring Alan Ritchson that cracked the all-time top 10 with nearly 140 million total views. The streamer also found success with other new releases like Apex, the survival thriller led by Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton. Sitting at the top of global charts right now is 72 Hours, the new spy thriller starring Kevin Hart. Hart is returning to the platform soon for a new spy thriller co-starring Henry Cavill, but few details are known about the project at this time.
One of Netflix’s biggest competitors in the streaming landscape is Prime Video, which has officially acquired the rights to the highly anticipated novel adaptation, The Love Hypothesis. Written by Ali Hazelwood, The Love Hypothesis is based on a book that was originally written as Star Wars fan fiction for Rey and Kylo Ren. This afternoon, news broke that Netflix is bringing in Hazelwood for another high-profile project, Deep End, another of her books that was originally published back in 2025. There is no director attached yet, but Laura Kosann is on board to pen the script for the adaptation to pair with two eye-raising producers. Director of Deadpool & Wolverine and Star Wars: Starfighter, Shawn Levy is producing Deep End for Netflix along with Dan Levine via 21 Laps, and influencer Alex Cooper is also attached to produce through Unwell Productions.
