Star Wars Is Officially Coming to Dungeons & Dragons in 2027

[

It’s officially the beginning of a new era for Star Wars. As one of the most successful franchises of all time, the science-fantasy saga is expanding once again through one of its biggest crossovers yet: Dungeons & Dragons. The announcement comes amid a busy period for the franchise in gaming, with Star Wars Zero Company set to launch in just a few weeks for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, the turn-based tactical strategy title returns players to the Clone Wars and follows an elite squad undertaking covert operations during the galaxy-wide conflict.

Now, instead of another video game, Lucasfilm is bringing the galaxy far, far away to the tabletop. Recently announced during Gen Con 2026, Dungeons & Dragons will receive an official Star Wars expansion as part of Wizards of the Coast’s Universes Beyond initiative. The crossover marks the second major setting revealed under the new label, following the previously announced World of Warcraft expansion. According to D&D Beyond, the project is part of the company’s new seasonal publishing strategy, which combines classic D&D worlds with iconic franchises from outside the fantasy RPG.

Jedi Master

🟡

Sith Lord

Inquisitor

Grey Jedi

Disciplined, compassionate, and deeply attuned to the living Force, you have walked the path long enough to understand its demands — and accept them. You lead not through authority alone, but through example. You have felt the pull of the dark side and chosen otherwise, every time. That is not certainty. That is courage.

You are earnest, powerful, and brimming with potential — and you know it, which is both your greatest asset and your most dangerous flaw. You act before you think, trust your gut over your training, and sometimes confuse impatience for bravery. The Masters see something in you, though. The question isn’t whether you have what it takes — it’s whether you’ll be patient enough to find out.

You are not simply dangerous — you are certain, and that is worse. You have decided what the galaxy needs, and you have decided you are the one to deliver it. Your power is genuine and formidable, earned through sacrifice that would have broken lesser beings. But examine your victories carefully. Every Sith believed their cause was righteous. The dark side’s cruelest trick is that it agrees with you.

You were forged in fire and reshaped by those who found you at your lowest. You serve, because service gave you structure when you had none. Your allegiance is not to an ideology — it is to survival and to the master who gave you purpose. But there is something buried beneath the conditioning. The Jedi you hunt? You recognize them. Because you remember what it felt like before the choice was taken from you.

You have looked at the Jedi Code and the Sith Code and found both of them incomplete. You walk the line not out of indecision but out of conviction — you genuinely believe both extremes miss something essential. The Jedi don’t fully trust you. The Sith think you’re wasting your potential. They’re both partially right. But so are you.

What We Know About the Star Wars Tabletop Expansion

dnd-x-starwars-logo

Although story details remain under wraps, D&D Beyond has confirmed that the Star Wars expansion will launch in 2027 to take place in the Season of Rebellion. While featured characters, locations, or adventures are yet to be revealed, Season of Rebellion strongly suggests the setting will center on the Galactic Civil War, the iconic conflict between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire.

The era follows the fall of the Galactic Republic and the rise of Emperor Palpatine, who secretly orchestrated the Clone Wars as the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. This was also before he declared himself Emperor and wiped out nearly all the Jedi through Order 66. In the years that followed, scattered resistance groups gradually united to form the Alliance to Restore the Republic, laying the foundation for the events of the original Star Wars trilogy. The period remains one of the franchise’s most beloved eras, featuring legendary heroes such as Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, and Darth Vader, making it a perfect fit for a tabletop role-playing campaign centered on rebellion, espionage, and galactic warfare.
