Game of Thrones fans who have felt a bit disillusioned by recent adaptations often reminisce about the “golden age” of the original HBO series, specifically pointing to Seasons 1–4 as a peak era for the franchise overall. This sentiment is actually reflected in the numbers as well, with the show’s Metacritic scores climbing up from 80 to 94 across those four seasons, with Season 4 being the show’s critical peak, and with Rotten Tomatoes indicating an almost identical trend.
These early seasons of the show were renowned for the level of depth in terms of political intrigue, tense character acting, and iconic performances from the show’s star-studded cast. Characters such as Catelyn and Ned Stark, portrayed by the legendary Sean Bean, became beloved for the emotion they brought to the roles, while later additions like Pedro Pascal’s Oberyn Martell quickly became fan favorites despite their relatively brief time on the show.
However, perhaps one of the most beloved characters from the early seasons is none other than Robb Stark, portrayed by Richard Madden, the eldest son and heir of Ned Stark, who rises to become the King in the North following his father’s tragic execution. And Robb is making an official comeback on August 27 with the release of Game of Thrones: Robb’s War (via GoTL).
Game of Thrones: Robb’s War is an upcoming limited-time event for the highly rated free-to-play mobile game, Game of Thrones: Legends, which will release on Thursday, August 27 at 4:00AM and run until Monday, August 31 until 2:00AM EST. The event is part of the larger August release schedule, which includes the House of the Dragon, Battle of Blackwater Bay, and Assault on Rook’s Rest events as well.
Each of these events features special Legendary Champions and are part of a rotating schedule that runs throughout the year, with Robb’s War featuring Legendary Champions Robb Stark, House of the Dragon‘s Jacaerys Velaryon, Olenna Tyrell, and the one and only Daenerys Targaryen (Conqueror of Qarth).
The Robb’s War event puts players alongside the King in the North as he rallies his bannermen, battles the Lannisters, and attempts to maintain the loyalty of his increasingly fractured army. Previous iterations have featured enemies including the Stone Crows, Jaime Lannister, and Rickard Karstark, alongside special limited-time “Young Wolf Gems.”
Game of Thrones: Legends is a free-to-play match-3 RPG from Zynga that combines match-based battles with character collection and progression. Alongside its story campaign and PvP Raids, Legends regularly introduces narrative events inspired by major moments from the franchise, and it’s among the highest rated mobile games on both the App Store and Google Play.
In Legends, players create their own Westerosi house, assemble teams of Champions from both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, equip them with weapons and gear, and charge up character-specific abilities by matching gems. It’s well worth checking out if you’re looking for unique Game of Thrones content from all corners of the universe.
