A New James Bond Officially Joins The Iconic Franchise Today

[

Many actors have stepped into the iconic role of James Bond over the years, and today, another new face takes on the 007 mantle. Following Daniel Craig’s five-film run as the iconic secret agent, many have wondered who we’ll see as the next James Bond. While fans will be waiting a bit longer for major motion picture news, another version of the character debuts today.

As most seasoned James Bond fans know, the character’s on-screen presence was far from his debut. Before Sean Connery first gave us a film portrayal of 007, readers knew him as a character in the pages of Casino Royale. Ian Fleming’s spy thriller books date back to the 1950s, with a total of 14 books in the original series. Since Fleming’s death in 1964, many authors have brought us new stories starring the iconic Bond. That includes Charlie Higson, who penned a series of Young Bond novels starring a school-age version of the iconic secret agent.

Now, one of those stories is getting new life thanks to a full-cast audio production that will also introduce fans to a brand-new version of James Bond. Isaac Rouse voices a younger version of the secret agent in Young Bond: SilverFin, an adaptation of Charlie Higson’s 2005 spin-off novel. The new audiobook series, comprised of 16 half-hour episodes, releases on October 29th digitally and as a CD boxed set.

SilverFin is the first book in Higson’s series of Young Bond novels. The spin-offs feature a younger Bond during his time studying at Eton College. Of course, even a younger, less experienced James Bond still manages to get embroiled in a plot or two. Like the original series, the Young Blood books are spy novels, albeit with stakes more akin to Nancy Drew or The Hardy Boys. So it’s fitting that a younger actor like Isaac Rouse, best known as Claude Picasso in Genius and Ollie from The Crown, will take on the role. Along with Rouse, the full cast includes other notable names, including SilverFin author Charlie Higson portraying classics tutor Michael Merriot. Ian Fleming’s niece, Lucy Fleming, also makes an appearance as Madame Ouspenskaya.

While we’ll mostly get his version of a more youthful Bond via voice acting, Rouse stepped into a very different sort of James Bond costume for a celebratory photo shoot. As you might expect, Rouse wears a 1930s school uniform like what James Bond would’ve worn while at Eton. It’s not quite the 007 fans are used to seeing on screen, but it brings this younger version of the character to life alongside the newly released audio production.

For those eager to own a physical copy, Big Finish Productions is releasing several CD boxed sets of its SilverFin full-cast audiobook. Along with 4 physical discs featuring the entire audiobook, the Platinum Collector’s Edition (priced at $162 USD) offers a more in-depth look at the making of Young Bond: SilverFin via a special “Young Bond Intelligence Report” magazine. If there’s a James Bond fan in your life, holiday gifting just got a whole lot easier.
