Blair Witch-Inspired Co-Op Horror Is 100% Free To Keep Until July 27

Horror is a genre that’s thrived pretty much since the beginning. Movies like Blair Witch helped usher in more found-footage subgenre projects, but horror as a whole has been consistently popular across a ton of media, especially movies and games. Whenever there’s a drought of content and success, horror can swoop in and take the box office crown. It can often come out of nowhere.

That’s why it’s notable that there’s a 100% free horror game you can pick up right now. It’s inspired by Blair Witch, and features co-op gameplay. Just make sure you claim it before July 27, when it’ll revert to a paid project.

Developed by RedForge, Together After Dark is currently 100% free on the Epic Games Store. In essence, it’s a four-player co-op horror game meant to invoke a haunting atmosphere. It’s allegedly challenging and features jump scares and secrets hidden throughout the forest.

Here’s a quick official description: “Walk through treacherous paths all covered in darkness and every rustle of the leaves or snap of a twig will feed your fear. Witness spooky paranormal events that will make you doubt your mind. Enjoy the excitement of camaraderie as you depend on one another to prevail over what lies ahead in terms of challenges and horrors. Beyond the haunting atmosphere and chilling encounters lies a crucial task: It is necessary to find a way out without being seen. Together After Dark provides a memorable tour of horror enthusiasts who are looking for an exciting and bloody journey with their friends.”

Reviews are all over the place, but many echo the fact that it’s a fine short experience, and that the scares are worth it: “If you’re easily scared, you’ll probably have a hard time with it. It’s a little boring at first but will eventually get your heart racing later in the game. $2 is worth it. It’s a one and done type of game.”

As is usually the case with horror games, this one is M-rated. If you’re not big on the Epic Games Store or don’t have an account, you can pick it up on Steam for $1.79 until July 28. In other words, there are options if the premise is calling to you.

If you’re curious, development on the Epic Games Store entry Together After Dark stopped in April. The final update has already been pushed, and the indie developer is working on their next game, called 7 Days To Escape. According to them, they’re “taking everything [they’ve] learned from Together After Dark and using those lessons to build a much better experience from the ground up.”
